Not everybody needs the big city lights.....for some people, the simpler things are better.

UPDATE: We've been living in Elko since Jan 13 and while I was very skeptical in the beginning because the weather was brutally cold when we arrived, but this small town is starting to grow on me. There are so many hidden jewels like Lamoille Canyon, Angel Lake, The Ruby Mountains, The Adobe and Humboldt Mountains...we're surrounding by mountains that are the backdrop to beautiful sunsets. We're also a little over 4 hours to Reno, 2 hours to Twin Falls, 3.5 hours to SLC (which is not my preference), Yellowstone, 6 hours from Vegas, not to mention God's great country North of us with Yellowstone, the Tetons, etc. My husband and I can't wait to continue to explore Elko and beyond.

Take a drive up Jarbidge. The last 40 miles or so are dirt/gravel road, so don't try this in the winter. www.cowboycountry.org/Jarbidge. There is a nice campground outside of town.

Thanks for the cowboycountry link, we're in Reno but we've been hiking around out near Lovelock a few times. That site should provide a lot of info for camping trips.

The absolute number 1 reason to live in Elko . . . Lamoille Canyon.
