These results seem to validate the same informal poll results in our other, prematurely (and mysteriously) closed thread below. This very much has to do with local politics as our opinions matter a great deal in this national election.

And before anyone skewers the messenger by challenging the validity of this map, know that it comes from a well respected conservative.

I actually don't care who wins, as long as they can fix the economy. Bring more jobs, and not the piddly little minimum wage one's. Although I voted for Obama the first time, I probably will not the second time.

I don't really think presidents have the power to do that without cooperation from Congress. It would be great if they did.

No, really? (sarcastic)
So I am not allowed to voice my thoughts about the upcoming election?

That link addresses Nevada as a state, not "local" politics. That's why this thread is now in the Nevada forum.

It's a new Congress we need, one that won't filibuster every jobs bill the President has wanted just because Bohner, McConnell and Cantor want him to fail.

During Obama's first two years, the Dems had a large majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate for a good chunk of that time. The Reps could not stop anything. If you feel that Congress couldn't get anything done, especially as it relates to jobs or the economy, it was because the Dems couldn't get out of their own way. How did that work out?

You might note that filibusters seldom happen, it is the threat of filibuster that stops legislation. A more proper term would be cloture. In 2009 used 61 times. In 2010 60 times, by the minority party (Senate) i.e. Republican, in both sessions the number of cloture/filibusters were twice and more the number ever used in in session by either party since 1929.

Cloture votes were taken 139 times in those two years, again, nearly double the number ever taken in any two year period in the history of the Republic.

This renders the Senate impotent, and spells doom for our democracy. If the Republicans take the Senate, and the Democrats do the same thing to the Republicans as was done to them, we will have shown that representative government is done for.

When Al Franken was declared the winner in MN, the Dems got their filibuster-proof majority. You can blame Reps all you want, but the fact of the matter is that they did not have the votes to stop any legislation.

One area I agree with you is that filibusters/cloture votes have been on the rise in recent years, but this trend started well before Obama was elected. Do you remember the "Gang of 14" and why it was formed?
