Default How do I get a mining job in Carlin/Elko area?

I am currently living in Las Vegas and would like to move with my wife and small daughter to the Carlin or Elko area. I don't have any experience in mining or heavy equipment but would be able to learn it quickly. How would I go about getting a job?
I am a hard worker and learn fast. I want to move my family out of Las Vegas very soon but need to be able to support them. Any tips or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Justin

Contact Newmont Mining at Newmont Mining Corporation - Job Search. Newmont is the main mining company in the Carlin and Elko area.

By the way, keep in mind that mining goes through boom/bust cycles. When the price of gold or other metals go down, they close down the mines leaving people unemployed. When the prices stay high, business is good for everybody.

You should also try the Union Pacific website, they have a hub in Elko and do a lot of hiring that might be up your alley.

You have a great idea, the jobs pay reasonably well, and the area is a good one to raise kids in. Good Luck

You could try Total Mining out of Price, Utah
I believe they do contract mining in the Elko area.

I embroider their company jackets and caps.

My dad is always training new men and women on heavy equipment, he works at Newmont near carlin, but lives in Elko. He'll be retiring anytime now, he's gotten his 20 years in there. I've bounced between elko and vegas a few times.

Newmont and Barrick are the two large gold mines in the Elko area. Both of them have gone through recent lay-offs so even though the price of gold is high, the economy isn't helping new hires.
