Yup, I agree with Tortoise. It's not Nevada at all. In fact, pretty close to the middle of your trip but a bit closer to Houston than to Vegas.

The first photo is the Red Bluff Reservoir on the New Mexico/Texas border. Click here for the Google satellite view. If you zoom in, you'll see the same oil field images that are in your photo.

The last photo is the town of Monahans, Texas. Click here for the Google satellite view. Again, you can zoom in and see the oil fields to the left.

Poopskooper, how did you find that so fast? Did you recognize the lake, or the area? Good work.

Elnina, you would have been out of Nevada and over Arizona (or possibly Utah) in about five minutes after take off in Las Vegas.

Hey Buzz --thanks. Like you, I deduced it wasn't Nevada for the same reason you noted. But I did wonder initially where in Nevada would come close to something that looks like that. At first, I thought of the Hawthorne area and Walker Lake where the Ammunition Depot is located with all its igloos and other weird stuff. But what would a flight to Houston be doing up there?

When Tortoise mentioned "west Texas oil fields," I immediately started looking at Google satellite images of west Texas and it didn't take long to match those landmarks up.

Yeah, I first thought of Firecracker City, then realized they were flying out of Las Vegas to Texas. Since it's on the Nevada page, and said they were over Nevada, I assumed it was from Reno until I reread it.

My sentence fragment may have led one to believe that I selected Hawthorne as the photo site, nope. As a look at the aerial I posted would show.
