Hello all - I'm looking at possibly moving out west in the next 18 months due to a job change and would appreciate any and all info people can give me. I recently got hired by Southwest and one of the bases they have is in Vegas. Here is some other info about me:
-41, single, no kids, big dog - LOVE the outdoors, especially hiking, backpacking, fishing, triathlons - access to outdoor stuff is a must. - Have to live within 2 hours of my base (vegas) and I don't mind driving. The way my schedule works I'd be driving to the airport once or twice a week, flying for a few days, then returning home. -prefer small cities or large towns, don't want to live in Vegas - would rather live in the mountains than in the desert -middle of the road politically and socially So based on the above; If you were me were would you live? By the way, I'm also looking at AZ so you may have seen this post in the AZ forum Any and all input is greatly appreciated! Thanks |

If you can stand the winter, you should look at getting a place up on Mt. Charleston. Less than an hour drive to the LV airport. Or buy a condo in Summerlin and then drive up to Mt. Charleston for your outdoor activity. BTW, there is a whole group of cyclists who ride all over Summerlin every morning.

flythenav,
It's different out here in Vegas. You can pick anywhere on the edge of the valley and it's still close enough to Nellis. Living on the perimeter of the valley is almost like living in the country. Close enough to the mountains, especially if you pick Aliante, Centennial Hills or Summerlin or beyond, and still close to work. Be sure to come out here first and scout out the area's. Don't just blindly move out here without a clue. Alot of people do that and end up in less than desirable areas then moan about it forever. lol I'm sure you won't do that though. ![]() If you really must be out of the city completely, there are small towns around like Pahrump, Overton, Logandale, Mesquite, Amargosa Valley, etc. Some don't even have dialup for computers, so be careful. |

Why are you not thinking of Reno, sounds exactly what you are looking for? You can get a SW hop and be at your own gates. Otherwise, Mesquite is also a good bet, near the Virgin River Gorge and takes you closer to Zion and all the good stuff in St George.

If I were to have to live in Clark County I would try to get a place up around Lee Canyon on Mt. Charleston. Mt. Charleston is a great hill with lots of fine trails. Lee Canyon has a small ski area. You will be cooler in the summer with great access to hiking and mountain biking.
