relocation to Elko Nv.
Am looking to move to Elko in late march, early april of 2008. Las Vegas is not a good place for raising children. Any info on jobs and apartments would be helpful. Thank You.

You are fortunate, you are moving to one of the last best places in America... if you like the out of doors, if you are a serious townie, I think you will hate it. You did not state your career field, which leads me to believe that you do not have one? The easy answer for jobs is the mines. Lots of jobs (above ground, in offices or driving large trucks $30.00 an hour or so). Just make sure that you and your kids have hiking boots, and cross country skis.
I know nothing of Apartments, sorry. I would look for a small house, Apartments are not good for kids, kids need a yard.
My wife is from Elko, her stories of her childhood are elegaic.

I live outside of Elko. You might have better luck renting a house out here in Spring Creek, it's about 12 miles from town. Any questions you have feel free to ask.

I've bounced back and forth a couple of times between Las Vegas and Elko. Currently I'm living in Spring Creek, a few miles outside of town. Elko is great if you enjoy the outdoors. I do a lot of running, mtn biking, road cycling.. hiking up in the Ruby Mtns is fantastic. Mining is a big thing here. I work at a local deli and my boyfriend owns one of the bike shops.

Any help you give would be greatly appreciated. Can do both cashier and customer service for offices and automotive. Would also like info on junior high if posible. Spring Creek sounds like a good choice. Any info about it would help as well. Thank you in advance.

Here are a couple of links to get you started.
elkodaily.com is the local newspaper.
elkonevada.com will give you more information on Elko and the area.
I don't know about the Elko schools, my kids went and are still in the Spring Creek schools. They never had any problems at the Jr. High. I was pleased with the curriculum there. Like anything, you can ask a dozen people about something and get a dozen different answers.

Couldn't Resist
As a native Washingtonian looking to relocate to Nevada, I came across the suggestion to go to the Elko Daily newspaper. Looked great! And there, right across the top of the page, was an ad exclaiming that real estate prices are falling AGAIN. Claiming that a 90,000 mortgage could be had for under 499/month! I have yet to see that price here on any except the most decrepit, out of the beaten path, homes. That was just unbelievably funny to me! Except I suspect some poor person will think those kinds of deals are all over Washington! Not to my knowledge! I live in a mid-size town, with a LARGE poor population, in a rather depressed area, and spent a month looking for the cheapest 3 bdrm rental I could find. It is very run-down for only $650 per month, which is below market even for this neighborhood. I say good luck tracking down those advertised deals!

Oops
Forgot to mention that the ad was for WASHINGTON home mortgage rates. Sorry!

I was wondering if there were any apartments or rental homes in Elko or Spring Creek NV? I am a psychotherapist and may be relocating there in March.

Elko, NV
My husband and I just moved to Elko last week from Reno. Elko is a great place to live but unfortunately there is a major residency crunch. We have encountered apartment buildings with waiting list of 100 people to buildings no longer even accepting applications. It seems everyone just realized how great Elko is. As for jobs, mining is a major part of the economy here. Customer service would be my second guess.
