Default Lovelock NV

My name is Dawn and I'll be moving to Lovelock NV in Jan 2007. Will be looking for a job. I've been to Lovelock many times. Most recently on my honeymoon in June 2006

Cool Welcome

Enjoy the area, it's worth moving here. $$$ aren't everything, but you will find the job you want if you really look for it.

This will become a "Bedroom Community" in the very near future, mostly for people who have retired and have disposable incomes and have sold their homes in areas such as Las Vegas, Reno/Sparks, and yes, retiries from Calif.

Buy now, as we have seen the prices of real estate jump in the last couple of years.

If you always consider "The Glass Half Full, You Can't Go Wrong!!!!!"

Remember what Gertrude Stein said about Oakland, it applies to Lovelock "There is no there, there."

Default Gold rusch of 2007 Lovelock

People move for different reasons but the mines now operating always seems to look for good workers people who do not drink and gamble and show up on time......Prison guards make so much that they stay in local motels while pulling their shifts.Housing is still in expensive in Lovelock however as more mines open up and surrounding areas such as Elko and Winnemucca become expensive to live in due to the demand for housing Lovelock is sure to catch momentum.
there will soon be at least tree new gold and silver mines not far from town.
I think the only downside is the hot summer

you don't seem to like Lovelock or the surrounding area, is there any part of Northern Nevada that you do like? I'm looking forward to my retirement to Lovelock area I spent several weeks there and a few different times of the year and so far I like the people and I can learn to enjoy the land. I come from the most beautiful state in the United States (Alaska) I have heard the Nevada is the ugliest but you have to admit it has wide open spaces.

I disagree about Nevada being ugly, it is no more ugly than the ocean, in fact it is an ocean, a sagebrush ocean, with lovely islands.

If your goal in life is to find a cheap place, sit inside, surf the internet. Then, it doesn't make much difference where you live, however if you enjoy wandering the wild lands, with few mosquitoes and no grizz to chew on your shoes, then you will find Nevada a paradise. In fact, east of Lovelock a ways is Paradise, Paradise Valley. Also, Unionville is very nice, a small stream runs through town. Elko and White Pine Counties are two of the finest counties in America.

Our only beef, and it has come up just in the last few years, is winter. I cannot ride my horse all winter, I cannot sail my boat. The cold makes my bones hurt. We own land in various places in Nevada, but, we will visit in Spring, Summer or Fall.

I highly recommend Nevada, but not Reno or Las Vegas, those are just cities, just like all cities in the West, they are just an Extension of Los Angeles.

Thank you, my husband and I plan to do the great outdoors and look forward to exploring Nevada same as we do Alaska it's just here we can see the trouble coming such as the bears or moose, down there we have to adjust to the snakes and deadly insects that we don't have here in Alaska.

Finding a dangerous insect or reptile in Nevada requires a certain amount of skill. You have to go under the rocks to find them...so if you manage to get yourself bit you have developed the skill to be a true Nevadan. It is right up there with going to Vegas and winning your fortune.
