This amazed me. The federal government owns 84.5% of the land in Nevada which is the largest amount of federally owned land of any state.

At one point it owned all of it. It's sold off some.

I know some people get pissed off about this, but they need to get over it.

Exactly... Are we really heartbroken that we can't set up shop in central Nevada?

Good luck with that.

Yes and we have gambling too. Oh, my. Does anyone not know this stuff?

Live here long enough, and become an outdoors person, and you'll wish the Feds controlled it all. BTW: The Federal government doesn't own the land, it controls it. It is Public Land. Otherwise it would all be in the hands of a few wealthy ranchers and would be all fenced in. In other words, we'd be fenced out.

Enjoy those wide open spaces while you still can. It belongs to you and me, not some a-hole rancher that wants to kill off all the wildlife, destroy the sensitive plant life, and fence the rest of us out.

The Federal government can only "own" land for things like military bases, etc. BLM = Bureau of Land Management.

We don't want all the land in private hands here like it is in most other states.

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While itís still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. " Edward Abbey.

So true!

Land owner cuts off access to Anniversary Narrows near Lake Mead | Las Vegas Review-Journal

In fairness, most landowners would probably be fine with people crossing/fishing/hunting/etc on their private property if there wasn't hoards of liability and people weren't so disrespectful with trash and whatnot. As a whole, we've gotten what we deserve.

It's a good thing.

The rest of the country is funding our state!

I fully agree. Spending time out in our lands is one of my favorite pastimes.

BLM also owns a huge chunk of the land in Las Vegas, I'm guessing under 80% with the recent auction
