Hi out there. I'm contemplating moving to Ely in the next 6 weeks. I'm not finding many rentals being advertised Online. Is it more of a "you need to be here already", type of a situation?

Check out the Ely Times classified section (online), but I would not commit to anything before viewing the place in person. Rent in Ely/McGill/Ruth is high for what you get IMHO, hope you got a good job! Ruth is closest to the mine (if that is the job), but I'll just say I get a not good funky vibe in that community. Ely is a little better, its the "big" community out here, not too far from mine, close to BLM/Prison/Hospital , and of course the schools, grocery store etc. I spent 1 winter in Ely, just about went nuts with how early the sun sets, there are mountains just west of town. I like McGill, its just a tad farther to BLM/Prison from Ely, but it has its own funky charm, and gets an hour more of sunlight in the afternoons.

So whats bringing you out here? Have you ever lived in a really isolated community?

I'm moving to Ely, after my husband is sentenced. I intend to finish my degree in Social Work fall 2016. Is there a lot of prejudice if you are married to an inmate? As for me I'm as squeaky clean as they come...
