They can't find enough people to work part time for small wages so customers suffer.

Sad but this is the new normal until people decide differently.

My point was not to be so much political as to say that because the economy has change to a part time work force you have to know these kinds of businesses will start to show up. UBER is just the start. People have to make money to live. I understand the cab drivers position but in a big way it is the city planners fault for letting the taxi business get so far out of hand. 30 years ago they were uber. Now they are a shakedown business for people who are dumb enough to get in one.

I have been coming to Las Vegas for nearly 20 years and am amazed at all of the options to travel around the city besides cabs. I am also shocked that the "Green Police" have not attacked cabs to get rid of them. UBER is a great idea and if it changes the way cab companies operate then all the better.

This was a huge issue for months. Now, crickets....

Is Uber in full operation in Vegas by now? How's it working? Are they serving both the airport and the casinos?

Friend of mine does it in his free time.

Teacher coworker of mine does it on the weekends.

And, how are the cab drivers doing with it? Have they been being laid off? I would think that if the dire effects they predicted from uber operating were occurring, they'd be saying something about it.

I thought all along that there was probably enough strip fares to handle both. It's the outlying areas where I would think Uber is thriving.

I think theyre doing fine. My one friend the last time he mentioned it was driving during LIB festival making 150 bucks on one trip to Henderson. Uber isnt something we discuss on occasion, but both have said they make decent side money. Its not their main source of income

Yes, Uber is doing good in the outlining areas. The cabs still have the upper hand on the strip because the have the taxi stands where one just walks out the casino doors and has them lined up and where as with Uber you HAVE to hail them via a smartphone. Also, Uber's pricing is not that competitive and is subject to big increases when the city is busy. All the cabs have the same rate all the time. Don't think Uber drivers are doing as well as they thought. Once the bills for car repairs come in, they are in for a reality check.

Something will give in the future and it will probably be the cabs. They added more cabs recently and along with the numerous Uber drivers, it will be harder for cabbies to make a decent living. THe cab companies I suspect will have a tough time filling the driving jobs.
