I have a friend moving to Tonopah, I am having a hard time finding information for her on rental properties. They have horses and dogs, so they need something with a little bit of land, but I can't even locate a newspaper??? I recently moved to Cody WY and didn't have this much trouble and she has no internet access....HELP

Ummm....why?
You cant locate any information because there is nothing there !
Im sure not making fun of your friend but why would anyone move there? In its day it was a booming hopping exciting prosperous dusty town in the Cowboy days. All the mines are now closed which employed 99% of the town. I stayed there I think about 3 years ago. I never seen anything so depressed. We took some nice rides through all the side residential streets to see how the other half live.
While the homeless in Las Vegas might live in large appliance boxes under bridges, I think they have better living conditions then some of the
dilapidated homes I saw in Tonapah.
Im pretty sure they did not have a local paper when I was there. They read the Reno paper.
Sorry but just passing on what I saw. I wish your friend luck anyway.

Yeah, I can understand what desertsun has said. The last time I was there, it definitely is depressed. It may not be as bleak as desertsun has described but definitely not a robust town. It's still the county seat of Nye County so there's a core of administrative offices there and the town tries to promote tourism as much as they can.
There is a local paper there that comes out on Thursdays called the Tonopah Times-Bonanza but they of course don't have a website. You might want to call them to see if they'd mail you a recent copy.
Otherwise, you may want to call one of the local realtors to ask for their advice. There's two or three in town.

Tell your friend to check out Lovelock or Winnemucca north of Tonopah. Those towns have a little more to offer and it's possible to find a large piece of land for horses and dogs.
The Lovelock Review-Miner has no website. The Winnemucca newspaper is the Humboldt Sun Index of /

Town of Tonopah, Nevada- Queen Of The Silver Camps
Under business there are some listings for rental agencies and a quick call to a couple should give you some idea of what is available.
We are moving there hopefully for a job. Hubby finds out next week so I will be looking there too

I will agree with humboldrat here. Especially Winnemucca. What a nice little town it is, I really liked it. There is a couple state parks very near by we visited too but I forget the name.

Re why someone would want to move to a place like Tonopah--some of us like desolation, melancholy, and basically being in the middle of nowhere. I love it.
If I were single (or with a spouse who liked desolation and such as much as I), and I were able to afford living there (trust fund, better planning to this point, a sufficient job, whatever), I'd consider moving to a place like Tonopah, too.

Moving to Tonopah
I just saw your posting - I used to live there and would return in a minute's notice if I was financially secure. I was back there about 10 years ago and it has really changed. I did find it to be a community that did things together. It was quite a feat to have to travel to Bishop to do shopping and since the town is dying off, there is even less there than before.

How open/accepting is the community to new residents? especially out of staters?
