multi-racial family
Why would Nevada be any different than any other state to multi-racial families. This is America isnt it? Are you not treated equally where you come from? Are you from Iraq or perhaps Iran?

Thank you everyone I appreciate your feedback – even the ones with an undertone of disapproval. I concur with the majority of you who expressed similar sentiment that it does not matter what others think. Anyone who has felt unwelcome at a gathering, is a minority whether by race, gender or religion, has a disabled child or has a disabled member within their extended family, etc. can understand my concerns. As a parent you want to protect your children to the best of your ability and especially until they can defend themselves. In no way can I predict nor avoid the biases or bigots of the world. However I do need to make every attempt, whether fruitful or not, to ensure the next place we call our home is suitable for my family. We cannot be there for our family at each waking moment, we go off to work and send our kids off to school or daycare in blind faith. Faith that we have feed them enough, they have had enough sleep, were dress warm enough and we said enough prayers that night and the next morning to carry them off safely until we meet again. Each day I have faith in society that someone/anyone will come to child’s rescue if they see him/her in harm’s way….I, too, hope my fellow man puts the same faith in me because I would not disappoint them.
So it’s not that I am sharing my concern foolishly. One would be foolish to think any place in America is safe for ALL families to live and prosper in – that only exist in a perfect world. Again, thank you for your feedback – whether good, bad or indifferent.
Happy Holidays to you and your families

inter racial family
I'm from Calif (originally) and did notice when first moving to NV that people were definitely more prejudice--lots of comments. I was appalled by a few of them.
Also, my niece (she is white) is married to a man from Eritrea (looks black, but different features) and has 3 kids. The kids are very shy and sometimes I wonder if its because of their mixed race. They are also very, very good looking children.
Personally, I do think people here are more prejudice, but maybe I am wrong. I do know that if I were mixed I would feel much more comfortable living in Calif.--but, then again, that all depends on where in Calif. I am from central coast area--not all lot of rednecks there.

I agree. I think an inter-racial family would be much more comfortable living in California. They are very liberal there and pretty much anything goes in California. The standard's aren't set very high... look at all the different types of people they have from San Fran to Hollyweird and everywhere in between.

Wow I appreciate your concern but who cares, we are all such a mixed breed anymore, so just live and enjoy life where you choose. I myself will be moving to Nevada next year and I for one won't have a problem about it unless you're a jerk and then I don't care what color you are. Don't worry so much about others peoples feelings.

An inter-racial couple would probably feel comfortable living here in California. However, I don't think it is because Californians lack standards. I think it has much more to do with Californians being aware that most Americans, with the exception of the true native American Indians, came here as immigrants and we all need to find a way to live together peacefully. In a way, I'm confused that this would even be an issue in this century. If the message had asked, "Can a Polish man and an Italian woman live with their family in Nevada without attracting unwanted attention?" I think most people would laugh. What makes skin color such a different issue? Does mixing skin colors mean that the people have lesser standards? I'm very confused by these comments. Please enlighten me, a California native, who up until now, enjoyed visiting Las Vegas.

Hmmm... I'm assuming this question is aimed at the original poster of this thread. Since hhey are the one that posed the question it is obviously an issue to that person.

Actually, Redwingsfan, I was trying to understand your comments. You wrote that Californians have standards that aren't set very high. What standards do Californians have that aren't as high as Nevadans? Also, what types of people live in California that don't live in Nevada? If there aren't any criminal street gangs or dangerous criminals not associated with gangs in Nevada, please let us know. If none of these types of people are there, I predict that a bunch of Californians will cash out their overvalued homes and will be coming your way very soon. In fact, in addition to visting a Las Vegas casino to see a show, on my next trip, I'll contact a real estate agent so I can find safe, affordable housing. From what I read on the California forum, that is what most of us are trying to find.

I agree with your sentiments Christine Joan. That statement was extrememely disturbing to me also ...in fact, that entire post was.
