Legislature approves bill authorizing Uber, Lyft in Nevada

And so does Lyft... the more competition, the better.

I guess the envelopes from the taxi lobby weren't thick enough. I wonder how much this cost Uber (probably some options for the upcoming IPO)?

Surprised but pleased. This will help keep/make taxi rates reasonable!

Yes.Tightly.

My projection is that this with start off OK but eventually turn into a disaster as Uber and Lyft bring the strip to a halt. Initially Uber kept its cars off the strip but that is not going to fly. So we are going to see all sorts of interesting stuff as it unfolds. For those of us living in the suburbs it is going to be a great thing.

I'd still be careful about using Uber because taxi drivers are Teamsters, and we've seen what they can do to non-union drivers in the past.

Oh, enough with the fearmongering already.

You are the same person that said "I wouldn't bet on Uber."

I don't know if there are, or will be regulations about this, but if I were and uber driver (or a taxi driver in general), I'd have a gun on my hip.

Wow...someone actually beat the Taxi cab authority...AMAZING. Now maybe I actually can get some one who can pick me up and drop me at locations OFF the strip without me having to provide them with the EXACT directions! LOL

The Teamsters don't seem to have the muscle they used to have in this town, but in the past, when cab companies brought in non-union drivers, they went around T-boning those non-union taxis, and actually firebombing them with passenger's inside. They would call a cab and take the driver out in the desert where he might not come back. It got so violent that the cab companies and the state gave in. Now, the cab companies, AND the drivers, are going to be out to get Uber one way or another. It ain't over till it's over. And, don't forget, it was (hopefully "WAS") Teamster Pension Fund that financed his town. Uber didn't have to bribe too many legislators. Don't forget that northern Nevada doesn't care one way or another about Las Vegas, and they voted for this too, and many Republican legislators got bamboozled into voting for the wrong legislation, and couldn't take it back.

I'm just saying, let the dust settle a little before showing off your iPhone app.
