Not even a good place to stop for gas. Makes Fernley look like paradise.

I mean, why? If you want a cheap place to run out the rest of your life, it will do. But really, what is there out there? Nothing.

I imagine a move to Winnemucca is the first stage into degeneration of alcoholism and gambling addiction. Unless you have a serious ATV or hunting fetish to keep you active, you're doomed.

But, Hey! If you've got money and want to be "off the page", I imagine it could be quite charming.

How's that for "Input"?

I've noticed you've been asking about a lot of Nevada places. What exactly are you looking for?

Really, the only livable places are Reno/Carson/Tahoe (and Douglas County),Greater Vegas and Elko area. The rest of the State is petty much a cultural and economic wasteland.

Just the way we like it.

The Fernley/Fallon/Silver Springs area might see a little uptick because of the new industrial park, but nothing to bank a lifestyle on.

Decided we want to be out father from Reno.

Yes we understand we lived in a small town before and you can buy me a soda ...anyone up there make their own root beer?

We want to be outside that little cluster around Reno

Part of what happened with Hawthorne is we decided against acreage if possible

There's a saying by old-timers here" Would rather spend a weekend in a closet than a day in Winnemucca."

There's nothing in Winnemucca except a Walmart and lots of livestock. There are some houses in town that come without acreage. There's a hospital but they would fly you out to Reno for anything other than the usual stitches and appendicitis. Only a few doctors and specialists are on rotation for follow up visits.

I guess retirement would be ok out there, but what do you do each day? If gardening and working on a hobby are your thing then it's great. But for any shopping, medical appointments, entertainment you are going to be driving in to Reno anyway. I guess there are nicer remote places to live (Smith Valley comes to mind, greener) than Winnemucca.

Disagree with Utsci! I like Winnemucca - a nice small town with all the amenities you would need and better than Hawthorne you were looking at. Go for it!
