I've sent a couple of emails to the state water resources department and not received a reply...what is the status of catching rainwater on your own property for your own use? Is it legal? to what extent?

In the southern end of the state there will be no issue. There also will be no water. With Mojave desert water levels it will likely evaporate faster than you can collect it.

Might be an issue in parts of the north but I doubt it. It would need to be a usable water supply before it gets interesting. Very few places in NV where that would be true.

It is a western water law state so it could be an issue. But you would need flowing water I think...which is not common.

Thanks! Are there any "official" websites that contain this kind of information?

Sorry about that. I put it up primarily though because it has good resources for rainwater harvesting.

The Nevada Division of Water Resources (NDWR) page had very little info.

Here’s another link that you may find useful.
