Default Silver Springs Nevada

Silver Springs, Nevada is a small town in Lyon County. If you are looking for a small town or small town living, this may not be what you are looking for.

Pros: There are two Casinos, an Antique store, a Pizza place, a Sheriff's Department, a Dollar General, a Family Dollar, a Laundry Mat, a Senior Center, and a Library. All the Schools are on the same street. There are beautiful wild horses. Fort Churchill is a nice retreat from the everyday life. Most neighbors are friendly. There are camping areas on three sides of Silver Springs.

There is an annual Founders Day Parade, but most of it is Politicians looking for your vote. There are no public pools, so most people have their own. There aren't many regulations and what you can have in your yard or what you can build.

There are a few Churches here. Assembly of God, Sabbath Day Adventist, Jehovah's Witness, Non-Denominational, and more. There is a local Post Office, (most people rent a box or pay for a key to the one at the end of the street).

Cons: Many businesses have closed and the economy is bad. There are rarely any jobs to be had in the area. Farming is hard because of all of the sand over the ground. The land is dry, sage brush, and desert. Wind storms are most year around and during the spring and summer these wind (dust) storms can be so bad you can't go outside or breath. From May to September it is very hot.

Most people have to go outside of the area to work. The nearest hospital is also in one of those towns, 27-50 miles away. The area is mostly Seniors retirement. The County doesn't take care of the streets. Weeds grow high on every street. My neighbors have junk in their yards. Dogs run loose. Most people live in mobile homes. Paved roads are in many neighborhoods, but there are a lot of dirt roads too. There is not really any entertainment, and most teens and young adults end up going out of town for fun.

You can find reasonable priced homes for sale since so many are for sale. But do your homework. Call the Assessor's Office in Yerington Nevada and check up on the property. There are those who will scam you. I have met them. You think your getting a good deal and then are stuck with a bad one. Also check out Zillow.com for information on the last time the property was sold, and its value.

Summary: I am only telling the truth in this post. I hope that the website managers will allow it, so that someone can understand what they may find. But if that isn't enough, go look for yourself. Spend a week there. (Plan to camp, no Hotels). Really do your homework and look at the demographics before you rent, buy, or stay in Silver Springs, Nevada.

2017: Wanting to know what it's like to live in Silver Springs. Asking specifically as looking to move there. Also I did not understand the reference to Stagecoach. Is there a large grocery store there or Walmart or Target? Are there doctors/dentists etc. I have heard mention of water and/or sewer dispute. What would be the problems with the water and or sewer. Is water safe to use?

@gmorley I think your post was excellent and I appreciate it - I have lived in Carson City for over 3 years now and am driving out to Silver Springs to meet a woman who is renting out a room. so, I am here to see what people are saying about it.

@noisebird people mention Stagecoach because it is a nearby town.
