a very large number of them never lived here....they were Californicators that used 30 peoples credit to squeek into a home and now they're loosing it and their renters will be the ones to suffer.....For the MOST part. I do NOT feel a bit sorry for them....only for the ones that actually occupied the houses......

Well if that is the case I don't feel sorry for those that buck the system to take advantage of others. We did see some activity up here some time ago with investers wanting to use others good credit to purchase homes but they didn't last long.

I'm a former Californian who moved to Dayton, NV. California is like a whole separate country compared to the rest of the U.S., in my opinion. I've lived all over CA - grew up in a walnut orchard and just kept moving and moving to get away from strip malls and huge housing developments and smog. When you move to Nevada, especially smaller populated areas, you just don't have the same services, shopping, road conditions, attitudes, products, education and other upscale amenities that CA does. It takes adjusting here - which is what I wanted and had to get used to. Now I quit complaining and love it here and HATE California and even hate traveling back there to visit family and friends. But once I hit the edge of the Great Basin on my way back home from a trip to CA - I breathe deeply and remember how good it is here. That's my romantic 2 cents worth!

OH that sounds sooo cool thank you for sharing. I grew up in Long Beach, Bellflower and the Paramount area's way back in the late 50's throu the early 70's moved to Alaska in 75. I am very much looking forward to our move to the unpopulated area around Lovelock for the laid back attitude and the slow Nevada pace.

We've lived in Anchorage which is the biggest city in Alaks but no means the size of a large city IMO, it's is getting more and more congested and with our retirement upon us we are looking forward the coming back here in the summer months but the winter months will be there in Northern Nevada and the road leads south when the temp heads south.

Alaska is not suffering like the other States are so just confused as to why the homes sit empty instead of the owners living there and working it out with the bankers.
Arizona was #1 last year. Nevada took #1 again this year.

Yup.. see I'm an ex NYC resident who moved to California THEN moved to Nevada.. now I cant stand either NY or California and my family knows.. short of a death in the family, I will never set foot in either state every again. I love it here in Nevada.. the freedom you have.. the lack of busybodies (We used to call California the "Mind your Business state" because everyone was telling you how to live), and the fact that its just cheaper to live in NV then CA or NY.

I guess I should define the differance between Californian and Californicator as it applies to current Silver State Residents.

Californian....a cool laid back kinda person that moved to NV to enjoy what WE have to offer.

Californicator....The other kind...the onse that whine "We did it THIS way in california" and start petitions and try to enact laws that make NV a California clone.

"By mind your business" and "enact laws" are you referring to ZONING??? Because I hate zoning and hope to find a place in Nevada with none, so I can live happily in a junkyard near a brothel. I was told to look on US 50, but that is very long, but I noticed that Mound House is on it. Does Mound House have zoning?

Go to Esmeralda County. they will let you do whatever you want as long as you pay your property taxes. Most agreeable place in the US.
