Take quick break along the route at Cathedral Gorge: Cathedral Gorge State Park | State Parks

Walk up into the ‘cave-like formations’, it’s a memorable experience!

I still think Fernley or Fallon would be the furthest to relocate. But Dayton is closer to Carson City for necessary amenties.

I guess Fernley is closer to Reno/Sparks for necessary amenties like Costco, medical and dental.

It's Highway 50. I did a road trip of it in the early 2000s, based on a piece that Stephen King wrote about riding his motorcycle across the "loneliest highway". It was a peaceful scenic ride, starting around Fallon, going east on 50 and ending in Great Basin NP.

I had wanted to spend more time at Great Basin, so about 3 years ago, after road tripping to Zion NP, I decided to head back to the PNW via Nevada, going south to north through central Nevada, catching I-80 at Battle Mountain.

Both of these routes are great for wide open space, photo ops and crowd avoidance.

That's great and it's still that way today? I mean with all of this development going on places that used to be open wide spaces are subdivisions.

Where was that movie "Vanishing Point" filmed?

Well, a lot of Nevada acreage is big ranches, or mining companies or owned by the government, I believe, so those areas are not developed. Probably someone who is a Nevada resident knows more about that, I was a tourist.

Not familiar with that movie.

I think highway 6 from Ely, NV to Bishop, A is the loneliest in Nevada. We have seen fewer vehicles on the stretch from Ely to Tonopah than along 50 from Fallon to Ely. We have driven each many times. Or, 305 to Austin from Battle Mountain. Or, highway 140 from Lakeview, OR to Winnemucca, NV. Very lonely.
