tattoo anyone?
i live in michigan at the moment, working as a tattoo artist. it seems to me that the struggle for monetary compensation here in the mitten will soon affect the client base for something as "recreational" as tattoos. i was wondering what the climate for skin art was in the nevada area.

I think that there is a big need for skin artists here, there are always parlors opening up, as well as chains like Diversity, everywhere I look here, someone has a tattoo...

lvkewlkid is right, there are plenty of tattoo parlors in the city. None of which I'm very fond of... although I haven't tried the one in Hard Rock that's on that television show. I'd like to go there. I have 11 tattoo and I had two of them done in Las Vegas, neither of which turned out the greatest, I had to have them touched up elsewhere. Most of my tattoos I have gotten done by the same person on Venice Beach over the years.
But you mention Michigan, I'm also a Michigan native. Born in Detroit, raised in the burbs and moved to Las Vegas almost 10 years ago when I was around 25. I got a couple of tattoos in the Detroit area that I like.
You should do just fine tattooing as long as you are good at it.

I was in Las Vegas last week, and we walked far from the South Strip to up near the stratosphere to find a tattoo parlor that was affordable! Vince Neil's place wanted $250 for a small, simple tattoo that up at "Tattoo heaven" (next to Diversity, I believe) a ways up the strip cost $115.
Maybe if you can find a place (or open up your own) somewhere in the middle or down near the Central/South strip you can do well!!

In Reno, you can certainly make a living as a tattoo artist -- even a very good living if you're particularly skilled.

I'd have to agree with lvbernard. I think if you are a good artist you will be able to do will anywhere, especially in places like vegas. Just do a lot of good work and demand for your work will grow.

Has there ever been a survey on what states have the most tattooed people per capita? If so I wouldn't be surprised if Nevada is #1. I believe that I am one of the only individuals in Las Vegas that isn't tattoed. I will never get one either. But I'm in a very small elite minority, you would do very well here.
