Yeah...we live just north of Alexander a block off Cimarron. The horses are still there pretty much though the roping rinks are going. Use to be 6 within walking distance of us now there are only two. It has gone from pretty cowboy to ruralish suburban.

Still neat though. It is fun to listen to the battles between the old timers and the newbys over things like street lights and sidewalks. The zoning in the area forbid them and the newbys think that irrational.

We went through the same thing when I built a subdivision on the corner of Rainbow and Desert Inn for Royal Construction. There were outer lots taht fronted on Redwood and Palmyra, which are both streets with the old 1950's ranches with no streetlights, sidewalks, or even curbs. They fought tooth and nail against all three items, and won on the streetlights and sidewalks. We did get to install rolled curbs, which look 100 times better than just having a ratty edge of asphalt blending into the burn lawn.

It was just hilarious listening to them talk about how they wanted to keep their area "rural"- for god's sake people- you're surrounded by three of the busiest roads in Vegas! How rural do you think you can be??? lol

That subdivision was a tough one to sell out too- the schools in the area where marginal (though I think we only ended up with three kids in the 63 homes, and they all went to private school), and no one wanted their brand new 3,000 SF, $300k home (now re-selling for closer to $600k) starting at old 1950's homes. It took almost three years to sell the subdivision, which is unheard of out there.

I would love to live at that location, with all that Vegas history and the shopping nearby...

Most schools are marginal here anyway.
