Obviously posted by someone who's never been there. It's actually more of a younger crowd and the main thrust is artistic expression. It has nothing to do with drugs, free love, or peace demonstrations.
Open your mind. You sound like a grumpy old man.

Norby413, I respect your opinions and find that a great deal of folks are very negative when it comes to areas around Reno and Nevada all together so I would like your opinion on north of Reno. My huband and I purchased land 22 miles north of Lovelock and so far we are very pleased with the area but haven't moved there yet. Please give me your thoughts on the area and any special things I need to look out for.

22 mi North of Lovelock? Wow. That's pretty rural! Don't know anything really about that area. Is it near Rye Patch reservoir?

Hi Tressa, I've been out that way quite a bit and remember it being very rural and remote. You'll have to drive to Fernely when the new Wal Mart opens to shop or into Reno to get anything special. I think what Greatbasin guide posted back in February is pretty accurate. If you want peace and quiet it should do the job. Summers are hot and winters are cold, both are quite dry. As long as you know what you're getting you should be happy.

My biggest concern would be water.

Thank you Renoguy, we are indeed looking for quiet and rural is nice at least we are on the grid which was very important to me, the water in our area is not an issue so the well guy tells us and neighbors tell us the same. It's so funny to read how remote it is I guess we've lived in Alaska way too long to consider the area remote but thats ok. when we first moved to Alaska in 75 we lived in a town that was 130 miles from shoping and traveled in the middle of winter with 10 foot of snow all plowed off the road of course to do our shopping, now I live in the mix of it all and looking forward to a bit of remote.

Tressa, given your experience, you'll be fine. The drive into Reno from out there is an easy one. It's interstate, flat and the speed limit is 75mph most of the way.

Have you been to your property yet or did you buy it based on pictures?

We walked all over it before we decided to purchase, have been there the few times already, recently had a shop erected and ordered the well plan to do the septic when we get down there. We loved it and look forward to our moving down there, I'm just so surprised at all the negatives I've heard on the area. I guess that we've lived in Alaska for so long that the area was very appealing to us being on the road circuit and all.
