The heat is only horrible if you aren't used to it. The hookers are mostly in the areas where there are visitors from out of town. The desert is exactly that, a desert. It is a scenery that one must live in to appreciate it. I'm not sure what "ugly little towns" you are refering to but there are disgusting bathrooms almost everywhere you go. What kind of danger are you refering to? Crime? Heatstroke? Earthquakes? There are nice campgrounds around if you happen to like desert scenery. I really can't argue with you about the mean people but one thing that I noticed is that the mean people have increased with the huge numbers of newcomers that have moved here from California and New York. There's lots of history here in Nevada if one takes the time to do some research. It's became overpriced with the Californians and Easterners moving here by the thousands in the past five years or so. The casinos are everywhere because this is a vacation destination and that's what mostly brings people here. The casinos also take care of the state taxes so that us residents don't have to.
I'm still trying to figure out if Nevada (particularly Las Vegas) is such a horrible place then why are so many people moving here each year?

Many times people find out it's what they are eating that gives them all the symptoms you described, except for the nosebleeds. Ive never gotten them here, but used to get them in Ohio in the summer. go figure that one out.
Lots of food can cause allergic reactions in people, and some of the symptoms are itchiness, like on the head and elsewhere.
Steer clear of artificial colors and flavors, msg, and all the other icky additives in most foods. Ive noticed even in 'kosher' foods they have some not so great ingredients.
So its not only the weather.

I'm thinking people that aren't used to the dryness might need a humidifier. But ive never used one.

Nobody asked the original poster to live here, did they?
Clearly, they haven't a clue about anything. I'm so glad they DON'T like LV...we don't want them here anyway

Sorry to those who live in Nevada. I drove by on my way to visit family in Idaho, and I was not pleased with Nevada at all. I'm orginally from CA so yea maybe my expectations where a little high, but still Nevada did not please me at all. States like CA and Ohio are much better.

Ditto that. Statistics show that NV ranks second in drug and alcohol abuse right behind Alaska. The politics here are run by the casino mob. A totally back'ards state. The only part of Nevada worth seeing is right on the border of California near Tahoe.

No Nevada doesn't. That is simply untrue. Let us see a source for that slander. Politics are sometimes colorful. They show little if any mob involvement. We kind of homegrow are crooked politicians.

This is an opinion board and people deserve to know the TRUTH from every side of the issue. If it sour apples, then they may have been grown here. I happen to be from another state and am not one of them people (what you nevadans call Californians). This state was born out of greed, dissent and a lack of respect for values ie. back in the gold rush and as far as Im concerned, the casino mob still runs the place. If you dont see it then youre blind.

UNTRUE? You want SOURCES. This is NOT slander... read and weep oh ye in denial. Nevadans think no ones paying attention
According to NIDA:
Rates of past year methamphetamine use among persons aged 12 or older were among the highest in Nevada (2.0 percent), Montana (1.5 percent), and Wyoming (1.5 percent). Young adults aged 18 to 25 were more likely to use methamphetamine in the past year than youths aged 12 or 17 and adults aged 26 or older.
* The NSDUH Report: State Estimates of Past Year Methamphetamine Use In 2002-2005, an estimated 1.4 million persons (0.6% of the population) aged 12 or older used methamphetamine in the past year. Rates of past year methamphetamine use were highest in Nevada (2%), Montana (1.5%),and Wyoming (1.5%). The lowest rate of past year methamphetamine use was about 0.1% and was found in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. For youths aged 12 to 17, rates of past year methamphetamine use were among the highest in South Dakota (2.3%), Montana (2.2%), North Dakota (1.6%) and Wyoming (1.6%). The national average annual incidence rate for marijuana use among youths was 6.3 percent. At the State level, Arizona had the highest average annual incidence rate (8.9 percent). Five of the States in the highest quintile for past month marijuana use among youths were also in the top quintile for new use of marijuana: Massachusetts, Nevada, Delaware, Colorado, and Alaska. Of the 10 States with the highest estimated rates of incidence, 4 were in the West (Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and Alaska), 2 were in the Northeast (Massachusetts and Vermont), 2 were in the Midwest (North Dakota and Wisconsin), and 2 were in the South (Oklahoma and Delaware).

Well, NC, lets see, you're right, Nevada was born of greed. The North wanted the silver that the state had and didn't want to see it going to the South so they made Nevada a state. Now since I'm assuming you are from North Carolina from your screen name that wouldn't color you're opinion any would it?
Sorry you weren't here in the 60s when the mob really ran the town. It was alot more fun (unless you got on the wrong side of them ) As for now, we have a former mob attorney who professes to be the happiest mayor in the country. Outside of that, I guess you'd have to say that Harrah's, MGM-Mirage and other PUBLICALLY OWNED casino companys are running the legislature. That means that you are saying that eveyone who owns stock in these companies is associated with the mob. Heck, there are probably people in, oh, let's see....North Carolina who own stock in these companies. Does the state cowtow to the casino industry? Of course! Do the casinos keep the state running when there is no other industry worth a damn here? Absolutely! What's your point? Gee, I guess that makes any state that makes money from gambling greedy. HORRORS!
Now as for other industry, Las Vegas is on the verge of taking the furniture sales industry away from High Point, NC. That wouldn't be coloring your opinion any now would it?
As for meth, I used to live in the midwest, statistics be damned, I saw more meth use there then ever out here.
Oh, and by the way, I took a stat class in college where the professor stated, "I can make statistics tell you there is a correlation between the number of hot dogs eaten in Yankee Stadium on any given day to the number of cars driven in Mexico City on the same day. Do Not Believe statistics until you see the science behind it."
