According to NIDA:
Rates of past year methamphetamine use among persons aged 12 or older were among the highest in Nevada (2.0 percent), Montana (1.5 percent), and Wyoming (1.5 percent). Young adults aged 18 to 25 were more likely to use methamphetamine in the past year than youths aged 12 or 17 and adults aged 26 or older.
* The NSDUH Report: State Estimates of Past Year Methamphetamine Use In 2002-2005, an estimated 1.4 million persons (0.6% of the population) aged 12 or older used methamphetamine in the past year. Rates of past year methamphetamine use were highest in Nevada (2%), Montana (1.5%),and Wyoming (1.5%). The lowest rate of past year methamphetamine use was about 0.1% and was found in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. For youths aged 12 to 17, rates of past year methamphetamine use were among the highest in South Dakota (2.3%), Montana (2.2%), North Dakota (1.6%) and Wyoming (1.6%). Methamphetamine use was the lowest among youth in the District of Columbia (0.1%), New York (0.2%), and Maryland (0.2%). Young adults aged 18 to 25 were the most likely to use methamphetamines in the past year. For adults aged 18 to 25, rates of past year methamphetamine use were among the highest in Wyoming (4.6%), Arkansas (4.4%), Minnesota (3.8%) and Nevada (3.8%). Methamphetamine use was the lowest among young adults in New York (0.3%), Connecticut (0.4%), and Vermont (0.4%).
The national average annual incidence rate for marijuana use among youths was 6.3 percent. At the State level, Arizona had the highest average annual incidence rate (8.9 percent). Five of the States in the highest quintile for past month marijuana use among youths were also in the top quintile for new use of marijuana: Massachusetts, Nevada, Delaware, Colorado, and Alaska. Of the 10 States with the highest estimated rates of incidence, 4 were in the West (Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and Alaska), 2 were in the Northeast (Massachusetts and Vermont), 2 were in the Midwest (North Dakota and Wisconsin), and 2 were in the South (Oklahoma and Delaware).

Changing your story already? That did not take long. It is true that Nevada is rumored to have a problem with Meth...but that was not your statement...you said....
"Statistics show that NV ranks second in drug and alcohol abuse right behind Alaska"
See...
http://oas.samhsa.gov/2k5state/pdf/AppB.pdf
You will discover that Nevada is not in the top 10% in drug abuse for all age groups or for 12 to 17 year olds. While the meth statistic does need to be dealt with it does not create an overall drug problem of "best in the nation" class.
I am also an engineer by training and do pretty good research...
At least two of the recently jailed politicians were mormons...None of those involved had anything that indicated potential mob ties onther than perhaps the club owner...who was a graduate of a local Las Vegas high school. We grow our own...

Hmm, I don't see where Alaska is the worst with Nevada following unless you've posted the wrong stats.

Top Ten Reasons Wht To Not Like In Nevada /Simfan45
"Simfan453
Top Ten Reasons Wht To Not Like In Nevada
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Horrible Heat
2. Hookers Galore
3. Dessert = No scenery
4. Ugly little towns with disgusting bathrooms
5. Ranked 2nd most dangerous state (next to Louisiana)
6. Ugly campgrounds
7. Mean people
8. No history except VA city
9. To overpriced
10. Nothing but casions everywhere. Even in chevrons!
Sorry to those who live in Nevada. I drove by on my way to visit family in Idaho, and I was not pleased with Nevada at all. I'm originally from CA so yea maybe my expectations where a little high, but still Nevada did not please me at all. States like CA and Ohio are much better."
RESPONSE ....!!!!
1. The heat isn't as bad you proclaim it to be.
2. Now, how you would know the Hookers? You must have been in Nye County !!One tooo any time
3. The Desert has a beauty only certain people will enjoy. You don't obviously!!
4. Again, you must have driven highway 95/395. You should take the off roads..Much nicer..
5. Las Vegas, Yes..bad.. Not ALL of Nevada
6. When one camps, you are not in a 5 STAR Hotel, Get over to it!
7. Think this is the other way around..You mean, most here aren't !
8. Boy you are blind. Old mining towns, off road, to the old ghost towns..TherebIS history..One has to see the history and go ad find it.But if you like "history" as Virginia City has. That's a HUGE tourist trap and seems like it right up your alley!!!
9. Are you from under rock? You must have hit every Tourist place in Vegas that over charges..
10. Yep, you drove, either on highway 95 or 80, which would have slot machines in gas stations!!
Sorry you feel the way you do, but it seems your eyes are wide SHUT and you can't see the beauty as others can. My advise, Stay out of Nevada!!

You know nothing about where you live, and if you hate it so much, MOVE!
People are flooding IN, not out. I'll buy your bus ticket!

Sure.
If your screename is "great basin guide", I would assume you know something about the Great Basin. Every post he's made contains dis or mis information. That was my point.
His last comment about the Burning Man festival proved his ignorance. They tried to shut that down for years based on the people "damaging" the environment, yet try as they may, they couldn't find one iota of evidence. They leave the place spotless, and provide a windfall for the state.

Burning man blows. A bunch of aged hippies from the Bay Area pretending they are still in the sixties. What a waste of human energy. Regarding GBG postings, I find him to be one of the most knowledgable members on this board regarding Northern Nevada.
