Moving from Detroit to Elko
Well i may have a job opportunity in Elko, but will be supporting a few other locations as well. Im looking for apartments but not getting alot of luck and im seeing other people on here saying that there is a large waitlist for the apartments in Elko? What could be my other options? Id like to stay under 700 a month if possible for rental.
Also whats there to do during the night or weekend? I like the outdoors but where does the 21-25 age group do around there? any bars/clubs there to meet people?
Thanks,

Check out the classified ads in the Elko Daily Free Press.
Yes, there are quite a few bars and casinos in Elko. There is not much else to do at night and during the winter months. There is a small ski area nearby called Snobowl Snobowl, Elko County, Nevada.
For outdoor activities during warmer weather, the Ruby Mountains are nearby for camping, fishing, hunting, etc. HIKING THE RUBY MOUNTAINS

There's a running club there, and a cycling club that hosts mtn and road bike rides. If you like or want to try mtn biking at all, there are endless, ENDLESS single track trails out around spring creek.. I could ride all day, never hit the same trail and never see another person.
The Rubies are lovely, I did a lot of trail Running up there, there are some very pretty lakes.
You need to be a lover of the outdoors or quite inventive to keep yourself occupied there in Elko. I went to high school there, moved to vegas when i was 20, came back for 6ish years, but got bored and find myself in Reno now.
I hope it all works out for you!

Not sure about the wait list in Elko for housing, but here in Wells (50 miles east), there is a major shortage of rental units. My buddy who moved here to work for the school, as I did, bought an RV and drove it here and rents a spot for $325 a month, which is an option...maybe. Good luck with your decision. It's nice and uncrowded up here, and Elko is a focal point, as that is where the movie theater, the dry cleaners, and the good grocery stores are located. This is by no means a hotbed of activity, but if you are relocating for work, you may just have to make the most of it, which is what I'm doing. It's nice here, but you need should investigate for yourself.
Good luck.

You are moving into an area that is dominated my the mining industry. During strong cycles, rental housing dries up. During bad times, the market is wide open.
I used to heal to Elko 4-5 times per year for a quiet weekend. There are quite a few things to do, many of which involve outdoor activities in and around the Rubies.
