Default Elko County

My wife and I are searching for retirement property in Nevada and would like to hear from anyone living in Elko County.

Don't live in Elko County, but I have visited it many times. Check out Spring Creek, just east of Elko. Many of the homes are "ranchettes" of an acre or two each - maybe enough room for a horse or two. To the east of Spring Creek are the Ruby Mountains which I have backpacked through. Lots of small alpine lakes if you like camping and fishing.

Default Elko County

I moved to Elko, which is the country seat of Elko County, in August of 2004. I came here from Southern California to escape the rat race after retiring from Boeing. Spring Creek is located in the County of Elko about 15 miles distant from the City of Elko. Spring Creek is a nice area with a great view of the Ruby Mountains. However, the Sprint Creek Homeowner's Association has a covenant for much of the property there. From what I can see this makes Spring Creek a basket case as far as the town governance is concerned. Elko, which is more mature is also a very nice town. Housing is very tight as the mines are booming these days.
The people here are friendly and that makes it a very nice place to live. There is a nice hospital in the area and also an commercial airport. Skywest Airlines has four flights per day to and from Salt Lake City, which is a gateway for Delta Airlines.
If very remote is your goal then there are some small cities, such as Jarbidge, that will do nicely.

I tried unsuccessfully to buy some property in Wells. I like the Elko area and as long as you don't mind a little snow and cold weather, it would be a pleasant place to retire. It's a little off the beaten path but not too far!

There are some fun casinos in Elko as well as some good Basque restaurants.

Salt Lake is only 4 hours away straight east on 80. It's not a bad drive and you go through the salt flats. Wendover is right in the middle with gas and places to stop for a meal.
