what's it like to live in ely, NV?
Interested in taking a look at Ely. are there many jobs there? How about businesses like rental cabins?

Ely it tiny. There are very few jobs.

Ely is a very small town. It is a place where people from Vegas go to hunt though. You might have some luck.

Ely is a small town in White Pine County, Nevada the 10th largest county in Nevada by population. It has much milder summers then Vegas and is colder then Las Vegas's winters.Ely is a very pleasant small town.

Isn't there a state prison in Ely?
Is there a hospital or local care center?
How about details as far as internet access and cell phone coverage?

The prison is several miles outside of Ely. I've been several times and have never seen it. They do have a local hospital, internet and cell phones. Great people there. Sweet little town.

I'm also considering moving there for a few years for a job. Can anyone tell me about apartments or other rental options -- how much I should expect to pay? thanks!

I'm also moving to Ely and the local real estate folks don't really deal with rentals. They said to check out the Ely Times website classifieds ( http://www.elynews.com/classifieds/) Friday mornings for the best chances. They also said the rentals are in SUPER high demand so check early/check often. |

A great town, small, lots of outdoor activities, fishing, hiking, camping the only glacier in Nevada is nearby. Summers are almost bearable. Winters are cold but short. the Northern Nevada Railroad is a great little attraction.
Some years ago Outside magazine listed White Pine County as one of the top 10 counties in America for outdoors activities.
