I would think it's about even in Mesquite and Vegas. But sometimes it can get hotter in Mesquite. But Mesquite is still a nice quaint little place. Really beautiful scenery. Not that Vegas doesn't have it, it does. Where i live it's beautiful. And it many other outlying areas of Vegas.
Murdo, visit Mesquite the end of july or early august. That way you can get a feel for the hottest time of the year and see if you like it. If you liked Vegas, you should like Mesquite. ![]() |

Yeah, PinkString is pretty much correct. It isn't that much hotter than Las Vegas in the summer. Some days maybe, but usually pretty close. It generally is slightly warmer in the winter though. Mesquite is actually a little lower in elevation than Vegas.

Hi,
I'm a federal government employee eligible to retire at this time and am thinking of relocating to Mesquite, NV. If I retire now, my retirement income would be around $61,000 a year. Is this enough to live on comfortably in Mesquite? I currently have no debts. If I sell my house here in Maryland, I'd probably have about $280,000 with which to purchase a new residence. I'm also a golf freak and want to join a private course in or around Mesquite. Any golfers out there? The Oasis Club looks like a nice place to play golf... |

bdrb and Duckcollar,
Nobody has mentioned that there is a LONG thread on Mesquite just below, and there's much good info on it for you. I have decided against living in Mesquite (having visited it in June,) as I found it to be too small townish for me, and with several negatives (for me.) I'm now strongly thinking of moving to Laughlin, and undoubtedly there will be those here who will not like it for some of the reasons that I do - so I understand that. So I mean to step on no one's toes here, but will give you my impressions, just FYI. I advise you to visit Mesquite for a few days before doing anything in the way of a move. I must rent, so I checked out several apartments there (and a few condos) and found almost all to be in poor shape and/or in neighborhoods I was informed were bad. Only one condo complex north of the freeway seemed nice - but I could not get inside to see it, and just had to gauge it from the outside appearence and it's surroundings. (I had gone to a property management office to get their help, and all they did was to give me a map, point out the general locations of some properties, and say, "Good luck!") Restaurants are terrible there. I had about five meals there, and they all ranged from generally mediocre to terrible. Perhaps there are some good restaurants there somewhere, but I didn't find them - and have been told by 'rocco (on the other thread) that Mesquite is not known for it's fine cuisine, even in the casinos. The Casa Blanca Casino is very nice, and I understand it has a wonderful golf course; but the other casinos are on par with low grade Indian casinos. The Oasis is like a run down Motel 6. I could hardly believe the difference between its adds and the way it really looks. I have heard it's golf course is nice - but just don't stay there. I stayed at a non-casino hotel called, "Falcon Ridge" - and it was the best part of my stay in Mesquite. I can't recommend it highly enough. So that's just a few of my impressions, but you can read a lot more on the "Mesquite" thread below. I hope i've been of help. |

No private clubs in the East Coast sense.
Wolf Creek is the upscale course located on the East end of town up next to the airport. About $175 for 18 holes. Haven't played it, but it is nicely manicured and many holes are cart path only. Quite hilly. Now for the real golf. You can buy a Mesquite Player's Card for $100 per year which is good at all of the other courses. Gives you local rates which are between $45 and $60 depending on the course. Five courses are included. The Palms is the course you see on the South side of I-15 coming in from Utah/AZ. Oldest course in Mesquite. Flat front nine, hilly back nine. Great views from the top of the back nine. Probably the easiest course in town. Course is physically located in AZ, but runs on Nevada time Casablanca is the course you see on the South side of I-15 coming in from Las Vegas. Flattest course in town. My personal favorite. Good test. Winds through the Sunset Green housing development. Falcon Ridge is on the North side of I-15. You can see part of the course coming in on I-15 from Las Vegas. Another good course. Very hilly and cut through the canyons on that side of town. If you hit it straight, you'll like this course. Finally, the Oasis complex has two 18 courses now which are located on the East end of town near Exit 122 in about the same area as Wolf Creek but a little closer to town. The Palmer course (designed by Arnie and somebody else -- IMHO opinion, Arnie just lent his name to the design business and does not design memorable courses) is hilly and fair. The Canyons course is the sister course -- fairly new, more hilly than the Palmer course, needs a couple more years for the fairways to mature. Both these courses are more foregiving than Falcon Ridge is you are not always straight. The Oasis complex gets the most play and is the hardest to get a tee time on. At the Pulte development at the West end of town, construction has started on the Conestoga course. Probably a year plus before it opens. Also good golf in St. George about 40 miles up the road. Easy to get tee times on Sunday since the locals are in church. |

I Have Lived in Mesquie for 3 years now & luckly im getting out if you like the Heat this place is for you because from may till about October its H O T. the winters are beatiful with the average high in the winter to be about 65-75 but the summers are way to Intense for my liking. The housing market is Ha Ha Funny because a house payment on a 1500 sq ft home on a 1/3 acre with a Generous down payment you still be looking down a 1500$ a month payment & that with good Credit..... Also the Goverment is Corrupt as they come in the 3 years ive been here ive seen so much Political BS Including my dad getting Fired Because Him & a Co-Worker Nominated the Many bundles of Mesa's North of town for a 'Nevada's most beutiful Scenery' They Fired Them Because for at least the past 3 years they have been Cutting Down Huge Hills & Destroying The Mojave Desert Tortise Natural Habitat. also in the south part of town there is a real big Meth problem & no website will tell of all the Crime that doesent get reported by either meth heads or Illegal mexican that the cops do nothing about it because there on the north side of town were all the Money is.Also good luck if your a working class finding a house not on the south part of town ''Note all the Houses on the North side run 500k+ most on the south side are half that or lots less

Thanks for posting, Ralf.
But not "all" the houses on the north side are 500k+ ...I was going to say "most" but I won't even go that far. Yes, the north side of town is the newer part where all the new developments are springing up and the where the exclusive communities are but like I say, not all the houses are 500k+ ...some, yes, but not all or even most. I knew there was a meth problem --as there is in almost everyplace in the country now-- but didn't realize that it was that bad. Do you really think it out of control? |

All of the posts I have read are so mixed. I am a 35 year old single woman thinking about moving to Mesquite. I like the "small town" idea. The town I am in now is only 10,000 people. I've lived in the heat and love it! Where I am now it only gets 70 every once and a while. It is mid 50's to 60's on a normal day. It's too cold for me. There is a meth problem here too and they tend to stay away from anyone else in the town. So I am not worried about any of those thing, but what I am worried about is the job market. I am afraid that there aren't any jobs unless you want to work as a waitress or in the casino.
So are there jobs in Mesquite that pay enough to live there? Should I be looking for jobs in another town and just drive from Mesquite? Or should I give up on the hopes of a warm small town? I will be out to visit in a few weeks and I hope that I can find out more. If anyone has some info for me please let me know. Thanks! |
