I was going to ask what kind of job because there aren't many out here right now of any kind. Horse ranch...that explains it.

Take the job. LOL! All in all, it's a nice place to live.
Compared to what you're used to, it's not even going to seem that cold to you. It can get very windy, and it is very low humidity. You learn very quickly to ground yourself getting in and out of the car! There micro-microclimates here. The weather in Tahoe is VERY different from in the valley. Summers are extremely hot in the valley (comfy up at the lake), but because of the low humidity, 100 here feels like 85 did back in the Ohio Valley area.
It's certainly not as green as what you are used to, but it's still very beautiful. And the smell of sage in the valley after a (rare) rain is intoxicating. The night sky is amazing, a stargazer's delight. Nothing like watching a meteor shower and listening to the coyotes sing.
I don't know much about Tahoe. I've only been there a couple times. I do know that there's plenty to do -- skiing, water sports, etc. It's not unusual for the casinos to have the big name shows that play in Reno or Vegas, just for much shorter runs.
Carson City, IMO, is a nice little town. I think it's around 55K population now. It has an active downtown with some nice little restaurants and shops. Of course everyone still flocks to Wally World and the like. The economy goes in waves, partly because the state legistlature meets every two years, so that off year gets a little hairy for the small businesses. I keep hearing about crime, but compared to where I lived before, it's piddly stuff. Casinos everywhere. Still strange to me to see slot machines in the grocery. Lots of churches. Little parks everywhere, and most have some nice free summer entertainment. (I'm thinking of Genoa and Minden there.)
Minden is right around 3K, I think. (I've stopped keeping up with the numbers.) Very walkable. Struggling a little right now (as is most of the state), but clean, walkable, very small-town.
Lots of retirees in the area between Minden and Carson. Lots of ex-California people retiring here. I guess the less said about that, the better.
Politically and socially, the area is pretty conservative and not shy about letting you know that it is. Housing prices in the valley have dropped considerably. Lot of houses on the market for long periods. Not sure what your real estate is like in MI, but I expect you'll have a bit of sticker shock.
I can't think of anything else. What else do you want to know?
