Pahrump is not that bad at all.
I have lived her for 5 years and I am 20 years old.
Given their isn't much to do, but if you have a half of a brain you can find something. It is safe and a nice little community.
Do not buy on Dandelion. Their houses sink for some reason. Only around their thou.

The house that seems to have it the worst is that house on Hacienda...It is on the corner of Hacienda and Ranchita. It is the 2540 block of Hacienda. If you use that little "yellow google map guy" (street-view), you can see that the house is surrounded by chainlink fence because it has been condemned. It is not the only house to have damage to foundation and structure do to sinking, but as i stated before, it seems to have it the worst. There is an underground river that runs underneath that portion of the town of Pahrump. This is why Pahrump does not get water from Vegas, and it has its own. But it has caused some problems in some neighborhoods (not all).

The reason for the sinking is that as the water table falls due to over-allocation, it causes ground subsidence.
This will happen in more areas around Pahrump over time as the over-allocation of water continues.

Warm winters?
I would check weatherunderground.com/Trip Planner for what to expect as far as warm-ness in winter. And don't underestimate the effect of windchill.
The desert can get mighty cold in the winter along with some wind behind it.
At night, a winter coat is a must!
