See, I knew this would happen! And I quote, " Instead of taking action you beat around the bush and nothing ever happens, but your quick to defend your awesome state! "

But whatever, I was trying to help open your eyes but now I see that I was just wasting my time. Hope you're happy in your sh*thole. I'll stay over here, where people can afford to live the good life!

And burger flipper, I am disappointed
That post was from nearly a year ago; and since then I have come to realize that Omaha isn't as bad as it once was, and is in fact a good place to live. I have posted numerous times since that post you quoted, and have not been bashing Omaha, why don't you quote those posts as well?

And I was simply comparing the two places...
Thanks for having my back (sarcasm)

And a final note: you people see the problems you face but you don't even know they are problems. You say it yourself "the crime rates are high because it is a transient state" Well why do you think its such a transient state? Because people can't stand to stay there too long; obviously something isn't right, otherwise people would be staying!
And if you respond with more negative comments, well I don't care because that is the only thing you "libertarians" i.e. idiots, know how to do.

So good riddance to you Nevada, we should give your state back to Mexico, both countries would benefit!

Edit: Tiger Bear and Mom Mom: the above is not meant for you, but for all the posters who had negative things to say about me. These were my observations while I was there and they weren't all about my experience... This was about Jane too, her standards of living would be a lot better out here in the plains. I simply was pointing out the problems and what needed to be done to make Nevada a better place, but obviously they can't handle constructive criticism very well. And Mom Mom, I truly didn't live the lifestyle out there and I moved back. But hey to each his or her own. If people actually want to live in substandard conditions then that is their choice, it just wasn't my choice.

I'll bet you're lots of fun at parties (as long as the beer's not too warm or too cold, there aren't too many or too few people, the music isn't too soft or too loud, the temperature is just right and you didn't have to drive too far)...

Anytime you're going to knock a place where people call home, you're going to get a negative response Rebel. It's human nature.

Just move on with your life, consider it a life experience and most of all be happy

According to the NYT the cost of living in Omaha is about 3% less than the cost of living in Las Vegas. However salaries for comparable work are 8.6% higher in Las Vegas than Omaha. So one making $50K would be a couple of grand ahead by moving to Las Vegas.

Crime is moderate in Las Vegas and Reno. About middle third. And well down from 20 years ago.

Las Vegas is not particularly transient. Popular myth. It has shown substantial growth over the past years but it does not show a loss of people larger than any US city of similar size. If you don't believe this try and find a source that shows Las Vegas is a transient city. It is a humbling experience. Numbers by the way...not opinion....lots of opinion...but no numbers.

There are a set of people who don't like Las Vegas or Nevada. In my experience about 20% of the new comers leave in the first two or three years the biggest complaint being the heat. It is hot here.

There are also a set of people who come here, do badly, and leave. These people will likely have that same problem wherever they live. I suspect you are among that number and will be writing bad things about Omaha in less than a year.

Honestly, I can't knock Las Vegas, as I lived in Reno... But the state in which Vegas is located, Nevada, does have some issues...

And no, i won't be complaining about Omaha, we'll be a lot better off here... We have a lot of family support here... I didn't mean to offend anyone earlier, simply pointing out some differences...

Tell me, So-crates: what did you expect to happen when you come onto a public forum largely inhabited by a state's inhabitants, most of whom live there because they like it there, and spend half an hour spewing an epic, foot-stomping rant about how awful their state is? Did you expect them to say, "gee, I never really saw it that way, mavbe you're right, we'll work on all the things that you ranted about and fix them to your satisfaction, and then we'll welcome you back with open arms"? You got exactly the response you were looking for, or at least should have expected, and then come back to whine about the exact response you knew you'd provoke. If you hate the place so much, put it behind you. Shaddup and move on with your life. Kwitcherbitchin'!

Do you actually believe that with ability and drive alone EVERYONE can and should afford $1,000/mo. in rent or a mortgage?? What about those conservative capitalists who do not spend wastefully and want something to save without keeping the landlord in Dolce and Gabana?

Please, please explain your economic theory, which seems to indicate that everyone who cannot make $1,000 in rent is doing something wrong. Who is going to flip your hamburgers and wash your car? Should they have to pay $1,000/mo.?

I've heard a few figures when it comes to rent/income ratio, but 1/3 seems to be the most commonly held. If that is the case, you'd have to make $36,000/year to pay the rent and keep your head above water. And that's BEFORE taxes, 401k, health care, etc.

Are you really suggesting that everyone who makes under $36,000 a year is somehow not living up to your standard?

Stunned. I have the feeling that your answer is going to amaze me further and prove just how far away you are from regular people.

Please take yourself and your warped, elitist, non-sensical view of economics and jump off the nearest bridge. The 40% of Americans who earn under $36,000/year (or freeloaders, as you would call us) don't really need you.

Ok, I did not mean to offend and I see your point. I am not an elitist but have worked very hard to get to where I am. I never called anyone a freeloader and would have no reason to provided they want to work for a living.

Regarding the $36,000/year; $1,000/month argument, let's remember that the average familly income is north of $40,000. There will also be differences in the age of the personal in question, i.e. you could have a very hard working, single 25 year-old and not afford $1,000/month but at some point that personal will either by a doulble-income or higher income due to progression of career/experience. Certainly I could not afford $1,000/month at 25. Anyway, I probably should have re-worded my original post.
