Yup, another leftists liberal freakshow that wants to run our state the way SHE sees fit.
Do us all a favor, stay out of Nevada, keep your hands off our money for your ENDLESS pit of "education". You libs think that you can tax anyone who is not a welfare queen, throw money at a problem and the problem will magicially go away.. it wont.
Stay in a high tax state and I will keep my money and freedom right here in Nevada.
Just because YOU could not make it here, please don't tell others that they cant..
Edited to add, I notice from your other posts you moved back due to "Financial Reasons" Perhaps letting everyone know that you had no money and HAD to move back might shine a bit more light on the subject. And yes I did notice that you are a Californian (Santa Rosa, Ca). Why is it that its ALWAYS the people from California who end up hating Nevada... lol

I agreee with most of what you have to say. I moved here willingly, and I am staying---at least till something better comes along. Moving east would mean I was even farther from my personal Promised Land, California or Hawaii. We moved here because we were led to believe we could build our own house, with wind and solar power, and be close to our grandchildren. County regs kept us from our dream house, and I guess when we crossed the state line the price of alternative power tripled. I think most US residents could use alternative power to eliminate coal, and fuels bought from out of the USA. (Gas for cars included.) We citizens have to accept the responsibility for letting those in power get us in this mess. We voted them in, or by not voting we let it happen. I learnd as a young child that you souldn't believe anything a politician says, it is the nature of the beast---they have to say and do things that are beyond belief to just get elected, and we are left to pay for it. Did anyone be me think that stimulating auto makers should start closer to the bottom of the food chain? #1. Make cars safe. #2. Sell them for a price us average people can afford. #3. Trickle UP might just work. There is a problem with home schooling, that a previous poster didn't address. Most parents aren't as smart as their children, and most parents don't want to take the time to educate thmselves so they can at least keep up with the kids. Don't let me start on teachers. (Good teachers vs. tenured babysitters.) In my K-12 education, can remember all my teacher's names, but can only remember 2 that made me want to learn. Sad when you count just the 30+ for high school. Can you tell that my heart starts skipping beats when I get within 2 miles of the Pacific Ocean? Nevada is mostly beach, and NO ocean.

Having lived in Carson City, Nevada, for nearly eight years now, I would largely agree with Society's Rebel post. We're a mere forty minutes from Reno, and try our darndest to never go there. It reminds me of one of the many non-descript, rather seedy towns/cities around the Los Angeles area (minus the serious air pollution).
I'm still amazed at who or what is behind the jacked up prices for virtually everything in this area! They all act like this area is on the verge of becoming a high class, "everything for everyone" place to live! Dumpy, over-priced apartments and houses, and some of the most consistently slick marketing I've seen since my "daze" down in the Palm Springs, California area years ago.
Normally, you WAIT till an area proves itself before you jack up everything. While Reno must have some areas that are safe, pleasant, etc., much of Reno is rather unattractive. Fortunately, in the last four or five years, Carson City has caught up with the addition of many new stores, so most of us no longer have to drive to Reno for much of anything any longer.
As with most things in life...look into things prior to ANY move to this area...including Carson City. We have deliberately chosen to keep our lifestyle low key and basic so that when the opportunity presents itself, we can jump in the car and "vacate the area" permanently.
After a weeks vacation in lush Marin County, California during Christmas time, this region of Nevada was like driving back to a different planet. YUCK!! Like comparing apples to oranges, to be sure, but there's more to it than just that....

The last two posts were fairly reasonable criticisms of Northern Nevada. Although I live in Las Vegas, if I were transferred up to the Reno area, I would live in Minden and commute. I suppose some day the three towns will run together similar to what Salt Lake is doing along the Wasatch front.
