Incline Village relocation advice ?!
My husband & I are relocating to a family home in Incline Village in fall/winter '09. The house is already ours, we have 2 AWD suvs, & have spent summers there for the past 6 years. My husband is a mortgage broker & we have elementary-age kids. We are from a California central coast & have never lived in the snow or mountains, but have lived in small towns. (To compare, the city we are leaving is a windy-valley 10 min for the ocean with gang & methamphetamine problems, population 92,000.) Any advice on helping us prepare for a happy/successful transition to Incline is appreciated! How do people survive the snow months sanely, what do people do during the cold months, etc? How should we prepare ourselves & our kids to make this a "good" thing? Thanks so much!!

you will like Incline. It's quaint but has all the amenities of a larger town...good restaurants, schools, also a great school, lovely beaches, golf courses, and it's own ski resort. The winter is not as bad as people say because it is so sunny here. It snows, gets plowed, the sun comes out and clears major streets within a day or 2. People are friendly. You sound like you are prepared except don't think an AWD means you can drive as you want. Just remember to keep it in a lower gear, don't drive fast, brake as little as possible, and you will be okay.

Does it snow at lake tahoe??? Many Californians enjoy transitioning to more cooler climates, but vegas is pretty warm although some areas of Nevada has snow, but, it can be quite invigorating. There's skiing, sledding, winter camp reteat activities and the like... It should be fun.
Good luck!
