I have never patronized a prostitute and support legal prostitution entirely on the moral principles of freedom, liberty and honesty. Honesty goes to the more practical need for sex workers and clients to access health care and prevention standards which is difficult to do underground. Legal prostitution is needed to outcompete illegal prostitution wich causes disease and unplanned pregnancy. Prohibition causes corruption just like alchohol prohibition in the 1920's, and Marijuana prohibition today. Another reason to move to one of the western states that has legalized medical marijuana. Or one that is close enough to give you the deciding vote.
However, job placement help was a real problem in NV when they tried to deny welfare to women who declined a legal job, prostitution. Gloria Steinem protested that one with good reason. I think they fixed that. Anyone know??

Legal prostitution consists of legal businesses, sole-proprieters, who have business licenses from their jurisdictions, are scrutinized by the state health department, and who pay all taxes, just like any other legitimate business, in Nevada. If these individuals do not abide by the law, then they are violating the law, just like any other businessperson would do that did not register their business, get a license and all required permits, and pay their taxes.
So, in my opinion, should counties allow legal prostitution, so what? If you don't like hamburgers, you shut down every McD's in the county.
To call it something other than it is, is a moral concept based on the beliefs of the person making the comment.
Legal brothels, such as the Mustang Ranch, was not a brothel in the true-sense of the word. It was a "rooming-house" that provided services to legal prostitutes (rooms). The reason why Joe Conforte got into trouble as the owner of the Mustang Ranch, was because he did not pay his local room-taxes or his federal income taxes, on his business, the rooming-house.
Its interesting to note, how so many people don't know what the rules are, but yet are willing to condemn someone, WITHOUT having any kind of information regarding what they are talking about.
I seriously doubt if Lander County even allows prostitution, let alone has the smallest fee, unless that fee is for the prostitute, and not for the "house." The house must have a business license and liquor license (if they serve drinks) and must comply to state health codes, etc.
I don't read wikpedia, because I learned long ago that it is ready-based information.
If you want to read some really outrageous information there, punch in Harry Reid or Barrick Obama, or even Ophra Winfrey.
It is nothing more, in my opinion, then a website for the self-engrandized!

I think that the majority of Nevadans that support legalized prostitution do it because they are smart enough to realize that you can't eliminate it so you might as well control and profit from it. Freedom, liberty and honesty dont enter into it.
Personally I support it because of ladies like Beverly Harrell who owned Cottontail Ranch between Goldfield and Tonopah. She was a lady of great class and generously contributed to the school athletic programs, the boy scouts and the girls scouts in the tri-county area where she was located......

I moved to Ely about 3 years ago. Personally, I could care less if someone wants to go to a brothel. I had a couple of the girls in the er about a year ago. Personally, I couldnt see anyone having sex with them for free, let alone paying them for it. They were pretty open about everything. They had both been there about 3 weeks and had made almost 10k each. In addition to the payment for 'services', if the john takes them to dinner, gambleing, ect, he has to cover that as well, so they also got some of their meals and entertainment paid for. They said the best night moneywise they had was a guy who took them both out, they got $2500 each. I believe the brothel also gets the same amount the girl gets. I was kinda shocked to find out one of the girls was married and the other was in a long term relationship. I couldnt honestly let my wife do that no matter how hard up we were.

I'm hopefully moving to Nevada soon, and I'm also a pretty hardcore Libertarian, so I'm obviously in favor of legalized prostitution . . . I'm actually kinda disturbed (but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised) that it would even need defending, although of course it isn't legal in every Nevada county. It would be nice to be able to change that so that it's allowed everywhere.

I have pros and cons about that....the pros....because we already have it in every county anyway so might as well tax and control....
The cons...cause I just cant picture a whorehouse on every corner.....altho we do already have the strip joints

lets face it, nevada is a state built from sin. so it makes perfect sense to make prostitution legal. if these prositution places are still in business after allllllll these years it must be for a reason? the reason is for the demand. without the demand these places would close down.
personally, i would like to see prostitution legalized in vegas so u dont have to drive soooo damn far from the strip .
