I'm not sure how you got this idea. Take a look at the numbers- mothers are choosing to nurse their babies more than ever. The "formula is better" myth (created by the formula companies) is no longer accepted.

Plus its a million times healthier for the baby. REAL nutrition and they build immunity.

Giving cows milk is a horrible way to nurture a human baby. Sorry, not a horrible way, but an inefficient one.

The nutrients of mother's milk is what makes them much stronger and build a strong immunity system.

I think weak or sick babies are more often NOT breastfed by the mother. That milk was created SPECIFICALLY for human children! Cow's milk was created to nourish baby calves.

The many 'formulas' and other chemical and other manufactured 'stuff'...I don't know...I think as Americans, we REALLY need to use REAL vegetables (not canned, not frozen, not overly pesticided), REAL mother's milk (not chemicals or cow milk, etc.)

I think there is a reason kids aren't healthy in the U.S., and a lot has to do with the fact that so few food in the U.S. is naturally nutrious for us, etc. - almost all manufactured, frozen, pesticides, or fast-food...all the nutrients washed out of it.

Mother's milk is the PERFECT most nourishing thing you can possibly give an infant.

Over 20 years ago I was breast feeding my children in public. I used care to do it discreetly so there never was an issue. In fact, this is a non-issue as breast feeding is considered "normal" in the US. Thank goodness!

BTW, I had to laugh at dynimagelv's post. Yup you could subscribe to the bunghole theory of child rearing. :-)

My wife does it no problem. Of course, she's not just whipping them out wherever/whenever. Never had any say anything or even look twice.

I'm not so sure about that. There still so many mothers out there (at least in my circle) who prefer powdered milk. I guess it's just so much easier.

You know what I hate? They never tell us how painful breastfeeding really is. Especially for first time mothers. The media always conjures up peaceful images of breastfeeding mothers. I think warning mothers about how breastfeeding really feels like could at least make them ready to face that challenge so that they won't give up on it easily.

Breastfeeding isn't painful unless the baby does not latch correctly. Before a new mother leaves the hospital, most nurses will show her how to hold and properly latch a baby. Also, it helps to toughen up the sensitive parts, if you get my drift, before the baby is born. I nursed both kids until they were about six months old and I was working full time along with it. Nursing was a relaxing and wonderful experience.
