I have driven thru Fernley and I thought it was a nice little place. I stopped at the truck stop and the lady at the Wendys drive thru was as nice as can be! I made a mental note to look the place up again whenever I am in the area. I think you fine people are doing a great job with your little town Isnt Yerington close to Fernley? I have heard good things about there as well

Default You may not like it but it's the truth

Don't do it or you'll be sorry trust me on this I moved to Fernley in 2005 I like most people when they arrive in this little town think "wow it's so peaceful here and the people are so nice"

well after about three years living here I can tell you first hand just exactly what kind of people live here, in a word HILLBILLIES all of them, for every one or two people who are nice and friendly you've got 20 or 30 who think in terms of "us or them" if you weren't born and raised here in town you're one of "them"

and trust me this isn't a good thing if you look for work you'll find none if you look for friends you'll find none people from town will look at you in the same light as if it was still 1950 and your are a gay black man to these people YOU are the outsider and have no right to be here even people from other towns in nevada don't like to come here because there treated the same way!!!

you don't have to believe what I'm saying but before you buy a house here spend time here read the local paper and find out for yourself and take this as a warning from someone who wishes they could leave.

To bad for your take on Fernely, we travel there often for shopping. We live between Winnemucca and Fernely, the Super Wal-Mart in Fernely is larger than the one in Winnemucca and they have the closest Lowe's.

We've eaten at the Wigwam a family style eating for breakfast not sure of lunch or dinner, the little town of Fernely is larger than I chose to live in, and now that even Fallon has a super Walmart that is closer to us than Fernely I guess I won't be seeing Fernely as much as in the past as Fallon is 10 miles closer and not as confusing as Fernely for driving but don't think that they are as bad as you stated.

Cool Fernley nv updated living (march 2009)

CURRENTLY I LIVE IN FERNLEY AND ITS NOT SO BAD..... SPECIFICALLY I LIVE IN THE DESERT BLUFF COMMUNITY AND ITS A VERY QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD WITH NO BULL OR WILD HORSE PROBLEMS (THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY WAS FENCED BEFORE I GOT HERE MAY2008.... IT'S ALWAYS WINDY HERE BUT IT'S NOT A BOTHER.. THE WEATHER IS SEASONAL.. WE GET ALL OF THEM, BUT THE HOT DRY SUMMERS ARENT SO BAD HERE BECAUSE OF THE WIND COOLING FACTOR. THIS WINTER WE HAD SOME SNOW FLURRIES AND A FEW SNOW DAYS, LITERALLY A FEW. THIS SUBDIVISION IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE HIGHSCHOOL. MY DAUGHTER LIKES THE SCHOOL AND HAD AN EASY TRANSITION MOVING HERE HER JUNIOR YEAR. THERE ARE 2 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO CHOOSE FROM, A FEW PRESCHOOLS, EASY DRIVE TO RENO/SPARKS AREA IF YOU WANT SOMETHING TO DO (25MIN ALL FREEWAY) (60MIN DRIVE TO CARSON CITY THE CAPITOL BUT ITS BORING THERE) (90MIN DRIVE TO LAKE TAHOE WHICH IS ENTIRELY WORTH IT)... WE HAVE A WALMART , SEVERAL SMALL CASINOS WITH RESTAURANTS, FAST FOOD JOINTS, A GROCERY STORE, VIDEO STORE, STARBUCKS, 2 GYMS, SANDWICH AND PIZZA PLACES, 7-11, QUICKIE MART, LOWE'S, AND 2 SMALL PARKS, CITY OFFICES AND 2 COURTS BUT IT JUST DAWNED ON ME THAT I DONT EVER RECALL SEEING A CHURCH HERE.. HMMM (NOT A CHURCH GOER) THATS KINDA WEIRD THOUGH. STILL NO MOVIE THEATER OR STUFF FOR THE KIDS WHICH IS A BUMMER (NO DANCE STUDIO, GYMNASTICS OR ROLLER RINK)... OTHERWISE THE STREETS ARE QUIET AND PRETTY SAFE... THE HOUSING HERE IS CHEAP RIGHT NOW, WE JUST BOUGHT A HOUSE AT A STEAL AND DONT MIND THE COMMUTE FOR THE SAVINGS WE GOT ON THE HOUSE. NICE RENTAL HOUSES WITH LARGE YARDS GO FOR ABOUT $800-$1000.. THE BIGGEST DOWNFALL LIVING HERE IS THE LACK OF EMPLOYMENT... ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A JOB HERE. THE PEOPLE ARE NICE, A SOME BEING THE OLDER "COUNTRY" CROWD LIVING HERE THE PAST CENTURY BUT THERES DEFINITELY A LOT OF FAMILIES HERE, AND WITH THE MILITARY BASES BEING 25MIN AWAY IN FALLON THERE ARE MILITARY FAMILIES HERE AS WELL. STRANGELY THE NEW HOUSES IN FERNLEY ARE NICER THAN THE HOUSING IN FALLON BUT FALLON HAS A MOVIE THEATER AND ROLLER RINK AND A LOT MORE BUSINESSES (NO MALL)... BUT IT'S STILL A FARMING TOWN WHICH IS NOT APPEALING TO ME. March 2009

Exclamation Moving to Fernley? NV Unfortunate but true

Unfortunately I have to agree with wolf 118 I to moved here during 2005 and thought the town was fantastic.

However a got a fast reality check the attitude of the people here is some of the worst I've ever seen, examples like intolerance, ignorance, and prejudice. I don't need to try to prove what I'm saying the proof is in their attitude simply driving around town you see people with bumper stickers that say "I don't care how it was done in California".

As far as growth is concerned the Fernley City Council seems to be on some kind of quest to drive out as many of the businesses as possible to say nothing of the fact that the city manager was recently brought up on corruption charges

I lived in California all my life I can't believe that these people think the way they do, I mean we're all supposed to be Americans but for some reason these people try to set themselves apart here's a quote from one of the city officials

it's folks who are "Immigrationally Illegal" or from Californication, which is viewed here as form of Illegal Immigration

Lately I've been thinking Fernley should change its motto from "Friendly Fernley" TO "Welcome to Fernley now get out foreigner go back to Reno where you came from"

I see NOTHING wrong with that bumper sticker. They are simply implying they dont care how you did it there and don't out of towns moving in trying to impose their ways on people and getting the old timers to change.

Im ot sur eit's those people who live in town that have the problem........

Default hey computeruser

hey computeruser moron did I ever imply that I was trying to make people change their ways did I ever say that my way was better I don't care how you do a job as long as it gets done and done right.

The idea that I'm trying to get across and that you obviously missed

is that in this town there is the "good ol' boys club" a small and select group of business owners and people that feel it is their duty to drive out anybody who isn't "from round here" even in the local paper they said it's "us vs. them" watch the movie Hot Fuzz

The reason I'm saying what I'm saying is in trying to warn people to the kind of attitude they can expect when they move to this town I hope to god it's not the same in every small town, but i'm sorry I got you all emotional

Anyway what the hell do you know about Fernley it sounds like you're already the president of the Illinois good ol' boys club
