Hey all. My Husband may have a really good job that would move us from Oregon to Nevada, specifically Fernley. What is that area like? I have heard it is a smaller area. Which is great for us. What is the weather like in the winter? I can tell what it is like now. Thanks in advance!

I've lived here for 17 years. I was ready to move 17 years ago. I couldn't do it due to shared custody of my children. I am free to leave next year. My home is residential/commercial and for sale. It used to be a small town. Now it is a city that hasn't the ammenities needed. They are selling houses with an acre as horse property. There isn't any hay to feed these horses.
Great 4th of July celebration. Mild winters/summers. You only need an evaporative cooler (much cheaper than air conditioning). |

My husband & I live in Tahoe and we bought a rental in Fernely (already rented) It's a nice area and growing rapidly, especially with Amazon right in the middle of it! It's only 30 min east of Reno. It can snow in the winter, but melts quickly. The summer gets pretty hot, too. High desert sort of area with pretty mountains surrounding, but not too close. Traffic has been bad lately with all the growth.

Hot in the summer, mild in the winter. the Wigwam is a great restaurant. There is a auto raceway. Houses are being built as fast as possible. There is a large warehouse district. Amazon is there.
No real character to the town, but close to good stuff. Truckee continually whips Fernley's butt in football (and all other sports) |

I am from Calif and hated it when first moving here, but have gotten used to it and there are some advantages to living in Calif. I live in Desert Lakes golf course community and there is almost no crime here. After living in Salinas, Calif. where homes sell for 3 times as much as there are gang shootings constantly, it feels so so nice to feel safe from all of that! Also, I have two teenagers and I am sure they felt safer at school--are not as stressed.
There is not a lot to do here, but I think that will change as this place is growing so fast! It all depends on what you like and where you are more comfortable. If you like living in a large city, move to Phoenix or Henderson or somewhere with a large population. |

Living anywhere in Nevada there are a couple of things which will make your life better, don't think it is California for a start. Then, hiking boots, horses, dirt bikes, jeeps, and a big hat.
