Info on Winnemucca Please
We put a small down-payment on a 40-acre parcel of land that's 14.8 miles down Sand Pass Road. We want to move our home and business (mom-and-pop trailer manufacture - mostly 5x8 and 6x10 for ATVs, motorcycles, etc.) onto the property. We're thinking of putting up a pole building for both the residence and business. I'm looking for input from Winnemuccans about the location, business climate, and life around Winnemucca. We've got a big generator and are pricing getting a well dug, so off the grid doesn't bother us.
I've never lived in high desert before, so I'm also wondering about growing veggies and flowers, etc. up there.
We're coming out in early June to check it out for ourselves, but I'd appreciate any input y'all would care to give.
Thanks!

I assume this is 14.8 miles west down Sand Pass Rd from Hwy 95 which puts you out in the middle of nowhere. I hope you didn't buy this land sight unseen. Why live so far out of town and the need for 40 acres? There are places closer to town (and with utilities) that are not that expensive.
Anyway, Winnemucca is a nice little town. Mostly ranching and farming along the Humboldt River and some mining in the area. The rodeo and county fair are great. The town has a Walmart, a Raleys supermarket, plenty of restaurants and casinos downtown, a movie theater and a interesting historical museum. Good luck to you .
Forgot about the weather! It's in the 80's and 90's during the summer with little humidity and it gets very cold during the winter with some snow - not knee deep snow but some snow.

We love the area but after five years we WANT OUT. The county is ruled with an iron fist by a small clique of good ole boys who don't want competition for their businesses so they have run off great businesses like Porche', Sherwin Williams paint plant, and others. Since they have eliminated that tax base, they go after residents for a permit for EVERYTHING. They nickle and dime residents to the point we all feel like hunted animals and want to leave. This is a nasty town with mean spirited people. I know the web master will more than likely "censor" or fail to post this post and you won't get authentic information on the area but our hope is that folks thinking about moving into this nasty town will get honest feedback from those that live here. There are better places to live, believe me!!!

We went and looked at the land. It is out in the middle of absolute nowhere and we love it. The price I was quoted for a well is around $6000. Water is around 200' in that area. It seems like access (putting in a road of sorts) might be interesting, but it is only something to be overcome.

I'm curious who quoted you 6000. we had a quote done and came up with 11,000 and our property is in the Paradise Ranchos area right near Sand Pass Rd. I believe ours was Anderson well drilling. Our water is at 140. Thanks, so much. We love it there too..can't wait to get out of CA!!
