Those are probably the two best in town. If you were to have said that having the amenities of a casino nearby, then the Casablanca hotel would be recommended.

We have stayed at the virgin river hotel-on the new side of mesquite and it was very nice.
did not stay at other ones you mentioned-
Casablanca was alright but virgin river cleaner and quieter.
and cheaper

Wow, really? Yes, the Virgin River is a good place to stay if you just want the basics. It's the first time I've heard somebody rate the Virgin River over the Casablanca. Interesting.
It's ironic because they're under the same ownership. Black Gaming owns three of the four "big" casinos in town, the Casablanca, the Oasis, and the Virgin River.
Thanks for the comments.

Both Are Nice
I guess it is what you are looking for-we stayed at the casablanca a few times and it is very nice-i guess i liked virgin river because it was a little quieter-
must be getting old-lol!
Oasis was a dump compared to the other 2-Oasis really needs a facelift-my room looked like a flashback to the 70's-mirrored walls flocked wall paper and the room was'nt really dirty-every thing was just worn out-carpeting,tub was worn-tile etc.
of course any where in mesquite is nice-it's 17 degrees in milwaukee today-and i had to work outside this morning!
ahh-the last winter here!

Made A Mistake-
ON my previous posts i said virgin river-i meant falcon crest instead-mixed the 2 up!
very nice and quiet -great price also.
never stayed at virgin river-but friends did and said as you -basic and cheap.cleaner than Oasis!as we picked them up and went in there room.

Toquop COAL PLANT CHANCES?
I would like a on ground assesment from the locals in mesquite on your opinion if you think this Toquop plant is going to pass with all the issues i am reading on it.
seems like no one wants it but it looks like it is moving forward from what i read.
we are not moving there till nov 2008 and it does not sound too good to me-says it got approved as a gas plant and then switched to coal.
all info and opinions welcome-
thanks in advance-benny

I'm thinking it's going to go through. However, as you note, there is quite a movement both in Mesquite and St. George to try to prevent it.
I think we've mentioned both local newspapers to find information online but this site will keep you posted with the latest if you don't already know about it ...it's the website of Defend Our Desert:
StopToquop.org » Defend Our Desert
Register for their email updates and get involved in their organization if you feel it shouldn't progress.

Jobs!!??!!
Can anyone offer insight to jobs in the Mesquite area? DH and I want to start "second careers", but the jobs appear to be tight in Mesquite.
Is this truly a resort/vacation town? Where do the residents work?
Thanks for any information you can supply!
