Default Cable TV

Just got a call from Baja Broadband about their telephone, cable, and internet services. They are not local, but the provide the basic cable to SCM. Does anyone have any experiences with the other Mesquite providers?

Thanks Tongler,

Although there are a number of Age Restricted communities that we like we'll probably start looking at other areas now. That's too bad because we really liked a number of the areas. I'm only 4 months from being 50 and don't know why the HOA's wouldn't allow 50 year olds in. We had checked with Sun City and you are correct, as long as you take possession of the home when you are 50 you can have them build a home for you.

As far as what side of I15 to live on....I would have to say the North.....it has nicer terrain and seems to be newer.

Cheers

Default Gated Retirement Communities

Hi North Country,
We live in Highlands Vistas, (Highlands Hills, Mesa Hills, Sun Crest) own our home & have never had a problem being under 50. There are a few couples in their upper 40's who live here too.

The problem is simple. Federal law forbids age discrimination and discrimination against families in housing...

But there are a couple of exceptions...one of which is for seniors and requires that 80% of the dwellings have one resident older than 55.

If you were to get caught with less than 80% over 55 you lose the exception. Basically you can never get it back.

Some developers allow a percentage at 50...but it is dangerous...

Do you know what the median price home is there...or is it condos. We will be retireing and are checking out areas. We are 50ish so I guess there is not a 55 or up rule there I am assuming from what you said.

Hi runrunning

Thanks for the heads up. So are all the Highland Vista communities under one HOA? I've been trying to do some research on the net to find a contact so that I can get some information. Could you tell me what is included in the HOA that you're in....full landscaping, reduced cable???? The areas that you talked about are definitely areas that we liked....just was worried about buying in there incase we we'd only be able to use it after 55. We love the Mesquite area....people are great and some awesome golf courses....we had looked at Vegas but just too big for our liking.
We're still considering Sun City Mesquite because they will let us buy as long as we are 50 at time of possession, but like the idea of a gated community although as people have told me there seems to be some issues with Gate Maintenance.

Cheers

Default Highland Vistas Mesquite, NV

Hi Northcountry,
Yes we are under the Highland Vistas Master HOA which includes all weekly landscape maintenance (which I don't think Sun City includes), trash, cable, high speed internet, pest control, gates, and some other perks I'm missing...
The website is highlandvistas.com & they have a toll free # you can call for questions.
They just sold 4 more homes on our street. Things are definitely picking up, which is odd for this time of year. The lots are larger than Sun City & HAVE GRASS front & rear which cools it off in the summer & all homes here have oversized 3 car garages which you'll need for storage (no basements in NV). Those were the things that made HV more attractive than SC.
Hope that helps & good luck with your search. It's a great growing city with more & more businesses opening up every week. (Walgreens, Starbuck's, Sally beauty Supply, Papa Murphy's, Quiznos, Bealls (like a Kohl's), Dollar Tree, ETC....)
Happy Searching

Default Moped Scooters

Mesquite is a great scootin town because the main thoroughfares have 2 lanes in each direction, and are posted 35 mph. Under 50cc scooters in Nevada do not require insurance or registration.

Depends on the part. Thanks for the info Runrunning,

We bought in Sun City so we'll sort of be neighbours! The price that we were able to get along with an incredible view lot sold us. Highland Vistas is an awesome area and one of our first choices for sure. You're right about the HOA, Sun City only includes basic cable from Baja and nothing else. Since we're going to do the desert landscape thing we won't have to worry about the weekly yard maintenance. Looking forward to the warmth and sunshine in Mesquite during our long winters up here in Canada....the older I get the longer they seem!!!

Cheers
