Federal court jury duty stipulations may be different, but state court (8th Judicial District) jury duty comes around about every 2 years and requires a commute to Las Vegas.
"NRS 6.020 Exemptions from service.
2. All persons of the age of 70 years or over are exempt from serving as grand or trial jurors. Whenever it appears to the satisfaction of the court, by affidavit or otherwise, that a juror is over the age of 70 years, the court shall order the juror excused from all service as a grand or trial juror, if the juror so desires.
3. A person who is the age of 65 years or over who lives 65 miles or more from the court is exempt from serving as a grand or trial juror. Whenever it appears to the satisfaction of the court, by affidavit or otherwise, that a juror is the age of 65 years or over and lives 65 miles or more from the court, the court shall order the juror excused from all service as a grand or trial juror, if the juror so desires."
So, "if the juror so desires", age 65 and older Mesquite residents can request a state jury duty exemption. To my knowledge, the City Of Mesquite has not had jury duty . . at least so far.

Hey guys, just a few general questions about Mesquite.
Where we have lived it's gotten hot in the summer, as it does everywhere, but obviously not as hot as the Southwest. Is it really that hot or are visitors from colder areas just not used to it? Because what I've heard from locals is that after a while you get climatized and that you just don't go outside in the middle of the day in the summer.
And also, Mesquite is growing very fast. What type of people are moving into the area as it grows? I know it's a big place for retirees, and that they make up a big part of the population, but what's the other part of the population like?
Thanks.

Thanks for answering! I agree that dry heat is more comfortable, and safer, than wet heat.
I also heard that Mesquite has a 30% growth rate, which is quite large. I assume a good portion of those people are more than just snowbirds? I think that as more people move there, it will become a community and not just a vacation destination.

Yes, it has been the fastest growing town in Nevada and I believe still is. Witness the huge residential developments going in all over town. I still can't get over the mammoth Del Webb community that's being developed west of the hospital ...where are all these people going to come from? Commercial development is easily evident too as one looks around town.
