I dont know about you guys.. but I love living out here.

If you are bored out here.. you simply are a boring person.. lol there is tons to do.

Loads of outdoor activities.

Now if you move here looking for action packed trendy club/starbucks/shopping scene.. chances are you will not fit in. Its a very nice place to live.

I loved living in Pahrump. I had horses, and did training on the side. I am a big lover of the outdoors and being active. For those that are more indoor and sedentary, aside from shopping, it probably wouldn't be a good choice.

I made a pilgrimmage of sorts a few years ago to see Art Bell's compound. I found Pahrump to be a little too small for my taste and somewhat backward. They need to pave some roads around there! If you want to get away from it all, that's about far enough. Be aware that the highway in and out of town is very dangerous. Lots of traffic fatalities in the area for a population that small. The people are mostly friendly though.

I don 't understand why ANYONE would live in such a depressing town! I have lived in Las Vegas for 30 years--would never ever consider living there! Check out Bouldern City if you want to be close to the city, but in a home town atmosphere.

Depressing? Wow.. I take it you must have no idea what its like to live out here or you DID live out here and are a boring person..

I have yet to have a bored or depressed moment out here. This is a great place to live.. and its getting better by the day. More stores are moving here, more people, less druggies, and a very low crime rate.

Keep Boulder city.. its yet another city full of crime and trouble.

Chinga, i gave you a rep point about pahrump but forgot to sign it. Just so you know it was from me.
I do agree that if someone is bored in pahrump or any other place for that matter, they need to adjust their attitude. I have lived in many places in my life, big cities, small towns, tiny places in the middle of nowhere with no shopping whatsoever, and I've never been bored in any of them.

Default Pahrump with a young family

I just had to join in and give my 2 cents worth of what I think about living here in Pahrump. We lived here for 4 years. My in-laws found this place when they were RVing. They told us that is was just a "Boomtown", that we should sell our house and move here.
Well, we moved, sold our house on a bluff in San Diego county, made a great profit, bought a manufactured home-(not site built, but rode in on wheels and put together)on 1 1/4 acre, septic and our own well. The first couple of years were ok, my kids started to make friendships, they seemed happy. They are teenagers now and there is nothing for them to do, no mall, no movie theater, although there is talk of one, I doubt it will happen while I am living here. Well, you know what teenagers do...everywhere in the world, there is alot of "it" going around here. I do not know if this is a true stat, but the average age for a pregnant teenage girl is 14 years old here in Pahrump. The school system, is not that great, Nevada is 49th in the union regarding education. The hospital here is very small with no trauma or critical care, those people have to be transported by helicopter or ambulance. Sin City is about 45 minutes from where I live. There is the Northside and Southside here in Pahrump. Like North Las Vegas, and Summerlin. Southside Pahrump has all the new suburbs and golf courses. The Northside.... not too pretty. Lots of neighborhoods have junk all over there front and back yards. The jobs pay lousy if you can find one. If you want decent pay then you have to commute to LV and add 2 more hours or more to your workday for the commute. It is very dusty, and hellish hot in the summer. Winters are ok, not too cold. Just snow flurries and they melt almost as soon as they hit the ground. Then there are the casinos where I see senior citizens smoking while they have oxygen tubes stuck up thier noses. There is prostitution, they keep to themselves and just have a few advertisments.
If you do not have a four wheel drive to drive into the desert or into horses or nature, I do not reccommend living here. It takes a special type of person to enjoy living here. My husband and I realize it was one of the biggest mistakes we have ever made to date by moving here. But, I believe it was necessary in my journey of life. Yes, we are moving back to the rat race of SoCal. The old saying is true, you never miss it until it is gone. (or move away from it)

Yeah, Californians usually do not fit in well here. Far too much freedom and no starbucks.. lol

Where did you get your stats on the 14 year olds being pregnant? Also how does "Smoking senior citizens smoking while they have oxygen tubes stuck up thier noses" affect you? Hey.. if they are happy in their few last years.. more power to em.

Ahh well.. back to the land of fruits and nuts for you.

As for the hosptial, most of us living here are not the type to take themselves to the ER every time they sneeze.. so what is out here works well for us.

I am unsure as to what part of town you live in but I suspect you never even lived here if this was the "vision" you took away from Pahrump.

Wink More on moving to Pahrump

Gads, I started this post long ago, so here is another update on moving to Pahrump. It continues to be one of the most interesting places I've ever lived.
There is a good heart here, it is still growing inspite of the economy. Fuel is still high, but in a recent poll on the Pahrump "All about Pahrump" list, no one was planning on moving to Vegas even though they are working there to save on fuel. We are now building a Home Depot, there is talk of adding another Walmart on the south end of town, talk of building a large super Walmart near the new Home Depot. There was talk of a movie theater, but its been put on hold due to money woes by Terrible's casino, still talk of moving some great chain restaurants here, talk of incorporation, still water problems, talk of building more new schools. The problems in the whole nation of economy has hit Pahrump, but primarily in real estate. We'd had our place on the market for over two months, it is ten acres with a modular home, not one call, showing, nothing. We even reduced the price $200K since last year, perhaps we'll need to lower in the fall. But for now no one is reducing prices, but the market is flooded with foreclosures. I have no doubt in time the market will bounce back and Pahrump will thrive again. Health care continues to be a concern, we have a hospital, but more and more people will not use it, rather than have an effective billing dept, they turn you over to collection, it is cheaper for them. There are not that many full time MD's in town, we are treated by PA's mostly, which does not work with my hubby's ills, so we must travel to Vegas for his care.

All in all I think Pahrump is great, I love going to the library and knowing all of the staff, same with the local stores. It continues to be a small town with all the warmth of caring, yet more and more conviences are arriving. I wish there were more for kids to do, more for teenagers, but its coming. And, most of all we continue to have an excellent Sheriff's Dept. They are caring, friendly, yet highly effective. Weather is good, sure it is hot July and August, but it is the desert and there is zilch humidity, just run from a/c to a/c.

Give it a try! Hugs Pat

Pinerose is on a distinguished road
My brother lives in Pahrump and in '93 I went there to visit him for 3 weeks. I found Pahrump very interesting and truly enjoyed my visit. He took me to Las Vegas in his 4x4 by driving over a dirt road that went over the mountain, that was a beautiful drive for me. Then we all took a super tour of Death Valley, hiking up into the Painted Mountains and exploring the route of the 20 mule team, Furnace Creek and the Date Farm, something I will never forget. I went from the bottom of Death Valley (85 degrees)to the top of some mountain where it was 40 degrees in the spring!! Another day we went out to look at all the wild mustangs and donkies and visited the Amargosa Opera House. Another time my brother took me up into the mountains and we ended up in the snow, building a snowman, having snowball fights and just marveling at the beauty of it all. That is until we caught a glimpse of a puma and ran for the truck!! I also went horseback riding and had a great time at Terribles too. I was impressed at the freedom and lack of convention in the neighborhood my brother lived. If someone wanted to build a house, they did, even if it started out being a shed and ended up being a wildly shaped geodesic domed house! There is something to be said about not having someone breathing down your neck when you want to do something on your own property!! Anyhow, I'm sure it has changed some since then, but I enjoyed it while I was there and met many, many kind and friendly people. I guess sometimes a person just ends up with the attitude they bring to the situation. Life is like that! Rosina
