tonopah looking at to live there
Hi I was just wondering what kind of things as of shopping are available in tonopah? Nothing big I know there is no walmart wish there was oh is there any walmarts or targets anything like that nearby. What is cost to buy normal everyday essesentials or is it best to buy online when living there. Also any good places to eat. Thinking about applying for a job there we want a small town to raise our family just with a little bit of life thanks to all

There is a Scolari's there which is a Northern Nevada grocery store. I think there is one casino there as well. I've only driven through on the way to Las Vegas so I can't say much about everyday life.

Tonopah
I am writing about Tonopah. Believe me it's the ugliest place in Nevada. There is a lot of history there, but as far as convenience, nothing. Smoky Valley is beautiful which is just around the corner. Fishing, quading, camping and a great mountain range. I moved to NV from Utah. I guess it depends on what you like. Hope this helps. There is a McDonalds there and Bishop, CA is about a 2-hour drive. Tonopah has a "hospital" and a few quick stop convenience stores too. If you are looking for work, try going to the Round Mountain mine. Great employment opportunities there.

Tonopah has a lot of history. Lots of old mines and a lot of old buildings in town. There is also an abandoned World War II air base east of town. Otherwise there is not much to recommend the place . There isn't much to do there and shopping is limited. Go visit the place before deciding on moving.

I drove through it once. It looks like Deadwood from the HBO show.

Tonopah really isn't a good place to raise a family...Your kids will hate you if you make them live there. There just isn't much of anything to be had there.

Visit the place. Its a good place for a dirt bike ride . For me its a place to gas up my car. I wouldn't want to live there and I sure wouldn't raise kids there! If you get gas for your car there , go to the gas stations in the center of town , not on the outside edges of town. You will save about 20 cents a gallon.

It's a drive thru town...highway is the main street. Some interesting historical buildings. A lot of buildings are in disrepair.
Small ....2,600 people and not many businesses for jobs or services. Although, it is the county seat for Nye County. Make one cantankerous rancher or waitress mad...you could have half the town upset at you - you're an outsider.
Up on a long hill....hit the town 1/3 up or so and quicker out of town going down the side to Vegas with a big, open pit mine on the right.
Hot, dusty in the summer, winter cold, but not much snow.
Not a wholesome place to raise kids. All kinds of people driving through town & stopping. Fallon or Elko, Winnemucca, Lovelock, Ely would be better.
Back to Tonopah....Cheap, big apts ($330 unfurn) at tonopahliving.com allow small pets/kids, no horses. 775-482-9386 – Ask for Maverick. I bet this guy knows someone who could pasture your horses temporarily while you get the lay of the land.
Consider placing an ad in craigslist both Reno & Vegas locations for Tonopah or other NV rural towns for housing. Most NV rural newspapers are online.
If you want work - the mines hire - Barrick Gold's career page has NV mining jobs listed.
Montana has lower unemployment and lots of small, safe, friendly towns, and wide open spaces.
Also, www.caretaker.org has all types of situations where you can exchange housing/pasture for full time work or a few hours a week all over the world and I've seen them in Nevada. There's a subscription charge.
If you're bent on NV. Good Luck! I love it there!

There is nothing near by. Nothing.
If you have a family, consider Elko, lots of great beautiful outdoors, and, your kids won't kill you in your sleep for dragging them there.
