I think driving up the cost of existing fuels such as natural gas & nuclear through excessive taxation and outright government interference just to make solar power and clean coal a reality places an undue burden on the working man and his family.

Isn't there a better way to make reasonably priced energy available to the masses without all the agenda driven activism built into the price were forced to pay..

Mostly nonsense. The biggest single factor in driving up utility costs in recent years was the governmental decision to deregulate the utilities. Turned out to be a really stupid move.

Nuclear Plants remain quite economical and "green". We just don't allow them to be built. And that started long before Al Gore.

Wind and solar have the liklihood of being competitive in 20 or so years. Maybe quicker if pushed. Eventually the fusion mechanism will be made to work.

At the moment nuclear is likely the best option...but we don't want that.

Yes, that would come under the heading of outright government interference which I mentioned in my post.

As for the rest of the blue sky technology in your post, which I deleted, we've already been sold that bill of goods at great expense many times over, yet even today, it remains pie in the sky technology.

Pays to keep up, please research how much of your existing fuels taxes existed long before "Gore"

Seems to me that getting America off its dependence on muslim oil would be worth a little bit of "undue burden" seems to me that American boys dying in the middle east is a bit of an "undue burden"

Seems to me that the average working man would like to see his boys grow up to have families and good lives, not die in some foreign desert.

Funny thing, there are those who say our wars in the Middle East are not about oil, but, how many wars would we have fought in the Middle East if there was no oil.

For an answer, consider Tibet, invaded and oppressed by a foreign power, how many American boys have fought and died to give Tibet the benefits of freedom and democracy?

mmmm none, why? no oil.

I heard a good term yesterday for those who think we are stuck with oil.

No mongers.

Funny thing that Nukular, turns out to be the worlds most expensive method of boiling water.

Well, ok. So we have to kill a few muslims to get gasoline for our cars engines. Hey I'm all for getting off the arab oil tit and bringing our troops home today.

I have no problem with Nukular, but, the stats I see don't bear out Capts claim that nukular is inexpensive. It is pretty darned expensive, now, we could lower the cost and build the plants much cheaper... no containment vessels for instance, they are expensive to build.

I have a big problem with industrial sized solar plants and wind farms. There is no reason for them, and the screw up the landscape. Each residence in this country can generate enough power on site to power the home via solar electric, solar water heating. Contrary to the No Mongers, homes can be retrofited to allow for less energy use in both summer and winter, Cottonwood trees do a great job of shading in the summer, they lose their leaves in the fall and allow the sun in. Look at the old pre AC homesteads in Nevada and you will see them surrounded by cottonwoods.

Simply painting every black bituthene roof in America white or silver will save more energy than America would get from all the oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Our home, is a simple modular, but, it has 6 inch walls, it remains cool or warm far longer than a four inch walled house. It is shaded through the summer by a massive walnut tree that keeps it cool all summer and loses its leaves in the winter and gets the sun on the deck for my morning coffee.

Is there a place for the grid and for hydro and natural gas and nuclear electricity? Yes, for major industrial applications, and major buildings such as the Las Vegas Casinos, but the day of the oil fired or coal fired power plant is coming to a close. They are becoming obsolete.

Some of these people who poo poo solar, wind, oceanic, etc., power generation are the grandchildren of men who said that man was not meant to fly, and that the automobile would never replace the horse.

Funny story, during the Civil War the standard rifle was a muzzle loading rifle, yet there were breech loading repeating rifles available. Why weren't they used in large numbers? Because the Army quartermasters thought it would over load the system trying to keep up with the ammunition requirements, and besides, muzzle loaders had won many wars over the centuries, why experiment with a relatively new and untried technology.

Clarks seems to be one of those "I do it, so everyone else not only can, but should" types. Those people annoy me.

It's funny that you would use the Civil war analogy. We fought the Civil war at the dawn of the modern firearms era.
Yes we had a handful of wonder weapons available back then but there just wasn't enough of them at the time to make a difference in the outcome of the war. Or even shorten the war for that matter. So the procurers were correct in ignoring the few wonder weapons because to introduce them would have been far to complex and could have possibly slowed the delivery of weapons and ammo that were in wide use at the time..

Germany had the same problem back in WWII. They had developed a collection of wonder weapons far superior to that of our own weapons near the end of the war. They simply didn't have enough of them to make a difference.
The same can be said for our ability to generate power. We have some pretty good ideas out there and a few that work but not enough to make a difference at the present time.

Were gonna have to rely heavily on the tried and true methods of generating power for many years to come before new technology can take over.
