I have stayed at the Motel 6 on the main drag in Ely (no kitchen) and it's cheap. For restaurants, I like the Jailhouse Casino and Ramada Inn & Copper Queen Casino - Ely, NV. There are also the usual fast food places in town.

I live in Ely but stayed in the Hotel Nevada on Aultman Street before moving here. It's a great place with plenty of parking (even for big trucks/trailer/motorhomes) - lots of character and really friendly people. It has a decent restaurant and 2 floors of gaming with the only live gaming in Ely. The rooms are clean but not fancy and are priced very reasonably. The place has so much character, nothing like a chain motel, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. My room at the Hotel Nevada did not have a kitchen but there are some nicer rooms in the hotel that may have a kitchen - just call and ask.

I haven't eaten or stayed at the Jailhouse but I've heard that they have the best steaks in town (right across the street from Hotel Nevada). I have eaten at the Ramada Inn/Copper Queen and I thought the restaurant was VERY dirty and don't plan on going back.

The Motel 6 is not on the main drag, it's on the Great Basin Highway by the strip malls and big box stores. The main drag (downtown) is Aultman Street which is perpendicular with the Great Basin Highway - it has all the bars, restaurants, and nice locally owned stores, including a really nice sporting goods store. Either way I'm kind of splitting hairs because Ely is such a small town and you're really never far from anything.

Ely has strip malls? I am wondering if you actually live here!

Sorry, I always took Hwy 50 to be the "main drag" in and out of town. But you are right about the town being small enough with nothing being far from anything.
