P.S. A 2006 BMW would be totalled, unless the damage was significant. I bet the water did make its way into the electronics.
Excuse ME! , Give me a break. Light and Safety check ( brakes) along with D.M.V. inspection of the Id Numbers and your done ! Plus the Insurance Company doesn't want the crap shoot as to possible future liability or problems. They take the easy way out, TOTAL LOSS, WRITE IT OFF. ITS ONLY MONEY!

to get the car from salvage to rebuilt salvage is NOT a light, safety inspection, and id check... you need to verify where the parts came from, who fixed it, and have receipts and prove the parts were not stolen. i find it VERY hard to believe you were in the business.

Well believe it or not I have 16 yrs more then you and all in the collision end of the business, which gave me the inside to purchase vehicles from the auto auctions . not only California ,but in the states of Arizona, Penn. Mass. and RI. It has only been the last few yrs that the additional requirement has been to show the Id as to where the repair parts came from , prior to that it was that simple Brake , light. and Verify that the Id has not been tampered with. I gave an example of my own vehicle but i have done the same with the other makes as stated 1972 flood in Hershey , Pa bought several Volvo's and BMW thru the auctions in Mass. People knew they were flood cars, I didn't hide the facts even gave un-limited warranty ,Fix any issues that came up which were few.

GO FOR IT! If you think its worth it.. Ive done two cars this year that i bought from ebay that had salvage titles a 2006 Sion and a 07 tacoma p/u . I payed 5K each, both of them had front end damage but were easy to fix with a little search online for parts.

Most of your reply's seems they have not done salvage titles, its not that hard!! What you should really check is if the car has a lien on it. if it does they can come and take it away even if you are a new owner.

IF all is GOOD, GO FOR IT....

As with any used car you take some risks, some more than others. If your pretty good with cars and have a general knowledge of what is right for you, then go for it. If your a novice and not a wrencher, then I would stay away. I like to buy high mileage cars used since they go for dirt cheap rather than a salvage title car.

I know guys who make a living with reconstructs--sometimes an 04 will come out as an 05 or 06. Banks and other financial institutions are unlikely to loan money on reconstructed vehicles as well. Not saying they should be avoided entirely, but you better know what you're doing or you're going to get hurt.

I'mseeing a car on Ebay that I interested on bidding. The car has a Nevada Salvage Title. I don't think I could drive the car from Vevada to Ohio. Simpley becuase Ohio will not allow a salvaged car driven on Ohio roads. I've been told that I would have to have it towed. I don't like buying any car without first drving it. And surley wouldn't want to be stuck with a car not able to have titled. The car really looks great. I beleive I'll have to have it towed from Nevada to Ohio.Once here, I then have to appply for a new salvage title and then take the care to a Ohio Inpsection Center for road saftey. If it passes, they will give the necessary go ahead to have it licensed. Are these the procedures? Are there other things I shoud be aware of? Thank You for your information.

so if i read this correctly, the car has a nevada salvage title (still has damage), not a nevada rebuilt title and you want to get an Ohio title?

I don't get it, if you want to buy a salvage car in California and sell it in Nevada what do you have to do for it to be registered in Nevada and be able to drive on the road? In California I think the only thing you need is a brake and light inspection and smog.
