I'm starting a trip to Texas in April 25, driving a 30-foot motorhome and towing my car behind it. Googlemaps tells me to drive down hwy 95 to Las Vegas, from where i plan to pick up I-40 to Texas. I'd like to know how safe is it to drive a 30-foot motorhome along 95? Isn't that Death Valley? Are there facilities available along the way? I'll appreciate any input, thank you.

What part of Texas? We drove from Reno to Austin. First leg was Reno to Palm Springs. second was P.S. to Las Cruces than from L.C. to Austin.

It's not near Death Valley, though it is a pretty boring drive. You won't be allowed on Hoover Dam, so you will have to take the bypass (Via Laughlin/Bullhead City)

Motorhomes have always been allowed; is this something new that they're not? They are subject to inspection and you'll have to expect delays not only at the inspection station but the road leading to the dam is extremely busy with tourists and constuction.

Assuming that they are still allowed, it's still best to avoid that route if possible.

I haven't seen one since 9/11/2001. Perhaps I just got lucky.

That being said the detour doesn't really add much time.

Ah, just did a quick google and searched a few sites and didn't see anything where they've recently not allowed motorhomes to cross the dam. Yes, since 9/11, you have to pull over and open your compartments and they may make a quick trip inside to look around but they aren't prohibited.

Vehicles than can and can't cross Hoover Dam

I crossed Hoover Dam last week and saw lots of motorhomes that were allowed to cross.
