Info on Boulder City?
Hi, my family and I are wanting to move out of state from CA due to housing costs and overpopulation. We're considering several different cities/states- amongst them, Boulder City.
We visited there 8 years ago while vacationing in NV and really liked it. It seems to be a pretty nice place to live and raise a family (we have two young kids), but looks can sometimes be deceiving, so who better to ask than the locals.
Any info you can give me regarding Boulder City would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Boulde City is something akin to Mayberry RFD...and it really is. Aside from being expensvie it has no known drawbacks.
Schools are good. Crime is low. Nice location with respect to Las Vegas and Lake Mead.
If you can afford the tarriff...enjoy..

Thanks, Olecapt, for your reply. From where we're coming from (30 minutes from LA), Mayberry sounds pretty darn good! Housing costs are a concern, though. Here, a fixer-upper goes for about $450,000, which is waaaay out of our league. But, if we could maybe find a fixer-upper in Boulder City for around $250,000, then we'd be OK. Maybe I'm pipe dreaming and that's way low for that city, I don't know. I guess I have some research to do. Thanks again.

the only reason I wouldn't live in Boulder City is lack of shopping, but there is plenty of good restaurants there...Boulder City is a nice town, it is always nice to be there and I like it cuz it has a real downtown...

I thought there was a waiting list to get into Boulder city. Or is that for new housing? (of which there isn't any)

Even though I live within 15 minutes of 4 major malls, I never go, but I do love great food, so yaah for the less shopping, more restaurant thing!
As for the wait list, wow! I guess it's a good thing my husband and I are finishing college before we move, but I'd better get a move on in contacting a realtor!
I'm glad to hear there's not much new housing as that seems to be the only thing to look at around here anymore- one cookie-cutter house after another. We really want to get an older fixer-upper and make it our own any way, so that might just work in our favor.
Thanks again everyone for your replies!

No wait list. There are however few new tracts as virtually all the vacant land in Boulder City is owned by the city and only dispensed in small amounts each year.
There are just over 100 single family homes for sale in Boulder City. They start at around 200K and go well into the millions. Below 300K many are in the old town and built more than 50 years ago. You can get a 900sf house built in 1942 for a mere 250K.
There are condos available down to about $130K. Nicer units start around 175K.

Wow, thanks for all the info! We're not opposed to starting with a condo, and we may have to at first anyway. I think we're going to plan a trip there in the fall to check things out. Thanks again
