Sounds like their town is filled with freedom controlling selectmen.

Someone is unhappy with their property tax bill. Very creative, but there have to be comparables on how much a property is worth. If the town says it is $4M and the tax bill is $70k, that is what it is unless one decides to go for a re-assessment.

They should have moved to Moultonboro or Sandwich instead. All the stats are online.

over taxing properties based on someone's idea of value is nothing new for this state - recently a family of 6 living in a trailer were assessed a property tax also over a million because of the view! Yet, the state claims there is no view tax. The trailer is worth about $15-20K. The land was worth $75K until two years ago. Now it's worth millions and the owner HAS to sell - of course nobody wants to pay millions for a mobile home. That acre of land, though..... Thank GOODNESS - NH can get rid of that trailer and put up a McMansion for the elite (dripping sarcasm).

In one case reported by the Associated Press, “the view added $140,000 to [the] property’s underlying value of $22,900. The property owner’s taxes are thus expected “to jump from less than $500 last year to more than $3,000 this year.” That’s not an incremental tax increase. That assesses a subjective “view” at six times the value of the property, from one year to the next.
