Default Grafton County?

(sorry, typo in the subject heading... should have said Grafton County?) mod : fixed

Hey, everybody.

My wife and I travel a lot, trying to move "blindly" to a new area for a couple of years, preferable a somewhat rural area with ample amounts of PEACE AND QUIET, SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE NEIGHBORS, and COOL, FRIENDLY PEOPLE... and low COST OF LIVING, CRIME, NOISE, POLUTION, etc...

And our next movie could very well be to GRAFTON COUNTY in NEW HAMPSHIRE (obviously)...

Does anybody have a town, or village in that county that you think would be best for us?

We've lived in some great places, and our favorite so far has been Point Roberts, Washington - but they had a housing shortage there and we never really found a place that was right - although we loved the area and the people. Now we're on the island of Gozo in the Mediterranean, but this place is nothing like it's described on the net, and we're ready to roll...

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

GH.

Hi..actually it's Grafton county and there are some very rural areas here. You are close enough to the Upper valley area and to Concord area if you pick a town somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure if you have kids, it's a regional school here.
Taxes are high, but, if you love the mountains and snow, NH is beautiful. Right now, it's about 60 degrees here. The further towns out, Grafton, Danbury, Dorchester, don't have much for work, but if you don't mind driving you can find a decent priced home with land.
If you want some real estate names just PM me.

Hi, We relocated to Grafton County (Littleton) from the Mid-Hudson area of NYS in April of this year, so I'm definitely not an expert on the area, but we do really like it here . The area is definitely rural so it's not for everyone. It's very peaceful up here and there is very little congestion on the roads or even in town (at least compared to where we came from). We've found the cost of living to be much cheaper as well. Of course, salaries are less, too. My fiance found a job before we moved here and I work via the phone and internet, so just kept doing the work I did in NYS, so jobs were not a problem for us.

We rented an old farmhouse for a year to get "the lay of the land" so to speak, before buying. We wanted to really get to know the area and decide where we wanted to settle. Where we live, we have neighbors on both sides of us and across the street, but there is enough land and wooded area that neither we nor they are intrusive. Our neighbors across the street are very friendly, but again, not intrusive.

The people we have met are very friendly, informative and helpful. We do not have school age children, so I don't know anything about the school system. The crime rate, as far as I can tell, is very low - since we've been here, we've seen an occasional police officer walking down the street and an occasional police car driving around. Once we did see State Troopers go whizzing past our place. Again, nothing like where we came from .

There are other towns nearby, which I believe are also in Grafton County, and seem just as friendly and seem to be just as peaceful. Compared to the Mid-Hudson region of NYS, housing prices and taxes are much less, thus more affordable, at least for us.

I hope this is of some help to you!

What is the closest 4-year college to Littleton, NH? Is it St. Johnsbury, VT, or is there something closer?

Mark - see my post in the Littleton thread. Lyndon State (VT) and Plymouth State (NH) are the closest. Dartmouth is about an hour away.
