Default Roaches

I'm hoping to move to New Hampshire after I'm done with college but I have one concern.

How bad are the roaches over there? What areas are best for avoiding them (if its possible)? Are there any areas that should be avoided specifically because of a higher than average population of roaches? Or is it mostly good?

Stupid question, I know. I just have this sort of irrational fear.

Far and few between around here. Most who get them are not the cleanest type of people. For the most part I wouldn't worry unless in a scummy area of town/city. Roaches tend to keep to there own Kind. LOL They are small here as well.

Queen - I've only seen a roach once and that was in NYS in one of the "classier" restaurants - it decided to crawl up the wall next to me

I have lived in NH for the last 32 years. I have never seen a cockroach in these parts. Ants, flies, praying mantis, ladybugs, mosquitos, butterflies, fireflies, and the dreaded noseeums yes, but no cockroaches.

I am not sure they even habitate New England. If they exist anywhere it is more likely in the crowded cities like Manchester. Even then I only imagine you'd only see them if you live in a slum or are keep your place unsanitary.

If you want to avoid cockroaches stay out of Florida. I remember seeing plenty of them down there.

Smile Naw, You'll Be A-Okay In This State!

You'll be just fine living in New Hampshire, don't forget, usually roaches and bugs can't stand the cold, and it's certainly a lot chillier here; than a ton of other areas of the country!

They will be anywhere where there are large concentrations of people and garbage. Even the glamorous apartment buildings in NYC have exterminators once a month. If you live in a huge apartment building, expect to see them. If everyone in the building has the exterminator then it shouldn't be a big problem except maybe a few days or so before he arrives. I wouldn't associate NH with that particular insect. In fact, when Mario Cuomo was governer of NY, there was sort of a contest to choose the New York State insect. People from the city mostly suggested the friendly neighborhood roach. The governor chose the lady bug instead. :-)

If you're looking for cockroaches, move to the south. They are common there.
Flies, yes. Ants, yes. Roaches, probably not many north of the Mason-Dixon line (aka the Mass border).
